"We do not post jobs online for anyone to randomly sign up last minute looking for a free meal because they happen to be in (xxx city)."
When I first began shopping, I would pick up one or two shops near my home before venturing out and would have been tempted to pick some of these up. Now, as a route shopper after finding my "niche" in the industry, I do often look at job boards of favorite companies when on a route, whether it be for a great meal (I have to eat while away and am usually far more willing to spend extra money in the middle of some of the grueling routes), a hotel stay, or something else to help keep my sanity during these days. Some of my favorite MSC have come from asking for something because I was going to be xxx city. It doesn't make me a less reliable shopper or person. In fact, perhaps it might benefit your company to say "Hey, this shopper is comfortable enough to travel hundreds or thousands of miles away from home, sometimes with airfare, hotels, rental cars, etc. Their MSC's must believe in them too for assigning these brutal routes." Actually, that is how I found my "niche" for routes - trying a couple out while in that city on another shop.
As for anonymous posts, I refuse to give my name city. I shop around a 400-mile radius and often find myself in different states in one day, depending on the route. I have worked extremely hard to cultivate the relationships with the MSCs and they have quickly learned that they can depend on me. 90% of the time, I am not in my listed geographical home as again I complete routes.
