Beware of the Bare

I did a phone shop for them yesterday, which involved a purchase. Their instructions specifically said that if the order was canceled, there would be no charge to my card since this company doesn't charge until the order ships. I called two hours after the purchase and canceled the order.

My debit card was charged anyway. Now if it is reversed, it will take 3-4 days for the money to go back into my account. In the mean time, I will be bouncing checks. I emailed the scheduler asking if Bare will reimburse me any bank fees for bounced checks.

But hey - at least I made $7.00

Their "quick" phone shops is at least 30 minutes....
so they seem to have a few issues lately..
Keep us posted "TGB" and let us know is you get the money.
I hate, hate, hate those shops and will never do them again.

At one point, they got a little desperate to have them done in French and I got begged to do them with nice bonuses. I told the scheduler straight off that I would not be buying anything with my card, had no use for the product, etc. She said I would be given an account number to do the shop. I had 4 shops scheduled with different scenarios. I only completed 1 shop because all the others had "issues". The account number given did not work to charge an order. They needed a credit card. The pre-shop tests took nearly 20 minutes each and were a complete waste of time.

To add insult to injury, when payment came, no bonus.

Never again.
That really isn't fair, is there anything to be done to help you? Perhaps the MSC should take responsibilty for this one, and maybe legally you can fight this for your cost.

Can you call the bank holding your debit card and dispute the charge? If you can, it will be put on hold until it's resolved, and in the interim, the money will be reinstated into your account.

Although I find American Express to consistently be the best with this, I've encountered this with other credit card companies over the years. Never using a debit card, however, but I'd guess it would still be handled that way. I wouldn't even go into detail about the nature of the problem, I'd just say that you were charged in error.

Good luck!
I also only use Amer.Exp., and when I had that fisaco in Vegas with their hotel internet invading my computer with many virus's.....Amer. Exp. credited back the fee. I later called the company, and they as well, accepted responsibility. I was however, out the $100.00+ dinner, as my report couldn't get done....so, act fast and contact your bank.

Live consciously....
All the companies with whom I've dealt have handled it the same way, the charge is taken off until the dispute is investigated. If the merchant credits back within that period of time, it's considered resolved immediately.

The cool thing about American Express is that, over the years, I've had a few occasions where they've removed the charge permanently, not even contingent upon the results of an investigation. That said, none of these amounts have been significant, but still...and I'm sure that part of it has to do with my long history with the company. That kind of behavior is what makes me a loyal customer.
The other good thing about AE is their Starwood Hotel program, my points at AE add up and I get about 4 free nights at a Sheraton yearly. Going Dec. to see my daughter and use my free nights, love it!! I have been using them for over 10yrs., and have never had reason to want to change.

oh the joys of having good credit... yeah bare... had a bit of a bad experience there... not bares fault... i do shops for them a little... had an eye exam shop and kept failing the test... sent me to a mri scan thinking i had a tumor in my head... the stress of that i cannot say... cat scan comes negative... im left with a 250 dollar bill (1250 was covered by insurance... thank God) which was sent to a creditor... must be a nice one cause they have not contacted me and im pretty sure have not sent it to the bureau... but still... the fee was good but nothing to cover the stress...

shopping north west PA and south west ny
Geez, an MRI is serious. You probably had a tough day and had eye strain, now the bill has given you more stress...MSing at it's worse.

I just join this forum and Boy! did I have problems with Bare...I have worked on and off for 4 years - however, lately they placed my payment in someone else's account. It took over 3 weeks to get anything done or any answers. I got an answer today. However, I do not see any money yet....I have a lot of payments due once they are in my account....I am out of there....I checked a number of online scam/consumer fraud etc....and they are listed quite a bit. If I didn't know, I would have never believed it..
Okay, sorry, but I have to disagree. I have done multiple shops with BARE and they are a good company. I like them and will continue to do shops with them. They pay on time.
I did not say they were a bad company I said "there was some financial irregularities with me and my money. And, saw online "what someone else wrote" and articles about them.

I am out of there because, if you place money in the wrong account, there is a problem. I am glad it has not happened to you and it didn't happen in the last 4 years until recently
I recently had a MSC (not BARE) deduct from my account... then they denied it... in writing no less, and said it must be a mistake on my part to charge them with this problem. Nevertheless, they deposited the money in my account, but I am through with them. And, I read on a forum that this had happened with the same company to another shopper.

I can understand you refusal to work with them again, because they have your money, and other shoppers have had the same problem.

For me, my experiences with Bare have been good.... all the way to the bank.
I might be wrong, but could some of the scams be a scammer using their name? I know a lot of scammers use real companies names to make their scams seem valid.

Can you maybe refer us to what you are reading?

Hi spaztck,

The message about Bare was my experience most recently. The scamming part of your question may have to do with another post of mine. Someone on this forum suggested I do not use my email address as identifcation i.e., Freebird vs. the full email address.

I have not received any scammer emails in awhile. I use a great anti-virus and protective software and so far it has caught everything and destroys it. Not saying it might fail at sometime. :+)
