Dear Maritz, If I Could......

Change one thing about your debrief, it would be:
I would put in place a drop down menu detailing your idea of the dates for beginning and ending each week of the month.
For me, it is the "Blue" gas stations that I struggle with what you consider the first, second and third weeks.

For instance, at the end of the debrief, you ask if I would like to perform this shop again. Next, you ask what week.
Well, I look at my calendar for that month and see (for example), this November starts midweek (Thursday). So, according to your schedule for this November, the first week is actually 11/1 to 11/10. The second week? It starts 11/11 and ends 11/17. The third week starts 11/18 and ends 11/21!

That makes planning very difficult. So, again, I'm asking for this teensy weensy improvement: a drop down schedule of the dates of each week.

Please!!!

When they give the spread you can do it any day in that period, you don't have to pick one day like most MSC's. I really like the spread cause I will put a day on my calendar but if something comes up I can change it to another day in that spread. 11/1 - 11/10 gives me a 11 day spread to choose from.
Trend I have noticed:
Week one will be seven days, or go to the next Saturday if that Saturday is on the 8th-10th.
Week two will go to the next Saturday.
Week three will be what's ever left, until the 21st. (they always end the initial dates to select at the 21st).

If you're choosing which week they should assign them to you, does that mean you're taking these at the base rate? I've never done either of those things so I'm not sure if you can still negotiate a rate if they preassign.

Just to be clear, it is the "Blue" shops that ask the shopper if they would like to perform the shop again. So, indeed, I am taking these shops at the base rate.
Base is still more than what Alta offers for comparable shops. But I still like a little more (or a lot more, depending).
Unless you are worried about other people picking up the shops you could just select not to do them again the following month. Lately, I have been selecting that and then logging in daily starting ~the 24th to check and see if next months shops have dropped. Then I can see the actual shop date ranges and plan accordingly. So far I have had no issues picking up my usual routes.
“Better than Alta” really is setting the bar low. I love the Alta jobs and Nicole, but I would never in a million years take those for $7.

A sub - topic on the blue gas stations... Have a drop down choice on the report for the actual number of pumps at the location. The ticking off of non existstant pumps is time consuming and unnecessary.
it works for their yellow client so they are fully capable. You just put in the number of pumps. It would require that they put the effort into reworking the survey which apparently they don't want to do.

You are correct Hoju, if you auto-assign the blue shops you are accepting them at base rate. They can not be negotiated for a bonus. I do a number of auto-assigns each month and mix them in with bonused shops from blue and other brands. Depending on different factors some of the bonuses are over $100. There are a lot of shoppers in my area who apparently like the blue shops a lot and snatch them up immediately, I believe at base rate. Congratulations to you for being able to negotiate blue shops on a month to month basis.

By the way, I'm pretty sure that was you that I saw down here in my area. You were jogging around from pump to pump taking pictures and completed the audit in 12 minutes. Amazing
They go quick in my area as well. Over time, I've learned which monthlies I can let sit on the board and wait for a bonus, and which will be snapped up quickly, so if I want it, why not just auto-assign it and lock it in?
I never take them at base rate, but if I lived in a big city where they get snatched up, I might see it differently, at least for easy stations near me..

I've never done a gas station in NY, but if you were around my area then that would very likely have been me. smiling smiley

There are some monthlies that, in the past, I did every other month. I decided, at some point, that, the distance was not worth the effort. I could never lump them in with other shops to make a route. So, I stopped agreeing to perform them.
It seems no one else really wanted to do them either. They continue to be bonused. I've set a minimum bonus amount for them to show before I self-assign them. Sometimes I get them, other times, not.
OTOH, there are shops that I do every other month that for this month, are currently, "night" shops. Typically, these are "anytime" shops. Because they were this month, mandatory "night" shop, they were taken away from my routes and now, I scramble to find fill ins. But, some of those "night" shops are in "questionable" higher risk areas. Those have to be very highly bonused before I'll attempt to do them.

My Dear Maritz moment...

Dear Maritz, on the green station, why can't the questions be re-numbered in the way they actually appear on the report? Why does the first question have to #38? Can't it be #1?
Dear Maritz... I'm an old fart and prefer list views over maps. When I change the map area for somewhere I will be traveling and go to List View I still get shops in my home area at the top of the list, forcing me to scroll to have to find the information I'm looking for. Highly inefficient and frustrating!

And I'm not a big fan of your map-centric approach when it comes to finding shops outside my area. To have to physically drag a map that cannot be fully zoomed out is also highly inefficient and frustrating. Search maps should always be an input field for location, accepting city, state and ZIP at the very least.

FWIW, my M. Ed. specialization is distance learning, and the above reflect best practices for online content gathering and delivery.
I agree. They need to fix that. And you don’t need a M. Ed specializing in distance learning to recognize that.
