Shop Was Closed

I had a shop today; it was a local (vs. nationally known) restaurant chain.

When I went, dumpsters were in the parking lot and all sorts of shelving, carpeting, booths, etc were outside. I approached and talked to who I assume is the manager and said, "Darn. Too bad you're closed. When will you be open again?" He told me that they were re furbishing the dining area and re doing the kitchen flooring. He said they will be open next week.

I sent a generic email to scheduler@360intel. I don't expect them to answer until at least tomorrow; maybe not until Monday, considering it's the weekend after Thanksgiving.

My biggest issue is that now my shop is going to be "overdue." I'm going to get automated emails, etc. And those emails will show a "ding" on my record until it gets all fixed up.

It will get fixed, right? I generally trust schedulers, but I think sometimes people might forget to pay attention to a little detail or two...

If you sent an email to them explaining the situation I'm sure they will make it right. Did you offer to shop the restaurant after they open again? If you don't hear from them on Monday you could send a follow up email on Tuesday to ease your mind.

Why not just submit the report and tell what happened? Did you think to snap some photos or get the geoverify?

I've never used geoverify, but I did get a photo.

I started to enter the report, but it will take some time, especially since I have to be creative with answers to get them to submit. There is no "was this business open" at the beginning.

So, I'm not going to spend my precious time entering a shop that I won't be paid for

I'm willing to reshop and told the scheduler that when I sent the email. But I don't want to give my time for free. I hope that doesn't make me sound selfish.

You are not being selfish. Unless one of the shop requirements was to call and you did not, a good MSC will compensate you for the time spent in traveling to the restaurant. One of our most valuable commodities is our time.

I had a similar situation at a cable shop today. In doing the report, there were character limits in the narrative boxes.

I ran into this when doing a graveyard casino shop. The MSC was just developing the report as I was the first shopper for their new client.

They wanted me to evaluate the players club and it closed at 11 PM. It took me about 15 minutes to keep putting in no answers and stating it was closed in the narratives. I sent an e-mail and they added a button that said basically "was it open?" Which let you bypass all the questions.

In you case, if there was a choice of "were you able to complete the shop", as I've seen on some reports, it would have made your job easier.

I had same type experience with same company and did as was advised by NUMEROUS posters here BUT, instead of an appreciative response, got a scolding from a junior editor telling me that I should have notified scheduler but IT WAS THE HOLIDAY AND THEY WERE NOT AVAILABLE! And, as was pointed out by all of you, this results in overdue which is a "ding" on your record and I'll add here, I was NOT paid for the report advising the OUTCOME of my visit WITH pictures so will be interesting to see how the company handles yours.

Actually, I love these shops! I get paid for showing up at the site and, not spending a dime. The report/debrief/whatever, not a big problem! When a shop is closed, I just use copy and paste for narrative, etc.

BTW, for each shop I perform, I always have my worksheet that is pertinent to that particular shop. On it, are the areas that show me what I need to have if that shop is closed or not in business, whatever.

I did a shop for a closed location and the editor sent it back to me stating I needed to upload a picture of the business card.

Under different circumstances, I would really want to be paid for my time and travel, but on the day I was scheduled for the shop (Day after Thanksgiving), I'd been in my pj's all day, being a completely lazy bum. The shop is the only thing that got me to get motivated to get dressed and get outta the house that day. And it was great to get out of the house; it was a beautiful day and the fresh air was good. My husband and I ran a couple errands and went for a walk near the shop location, so it was all good.

To be honest, that you took a lemon and made lemonade is neither here nor there. You are owed for your time, whether as a payment for the trip or a bonus added to the reshop.
