When a shopper uses the MSC job board or responds to schedulers' emails to get jobs, it becomes MUCH easier to build a positive relationship with the schedulers. This may not matter much for mega-MSCs like Marketforce, but even pretty large MSC's schedulers will respond positively when a shopper that they know to be reliable asks for a different date, a deadline extension and, YES, a bonus. Moreover, those schedulers have lists of whoppers that they will go to first when it is crunch time and they are offering bonuses. Relying on more impersonal methods of looking for shop will both keep you from seeing the newest shop opportunities for most MSCs AND diminish your prospects for building relationships. You want to have the shops coming to look for you; not the other way around, don't you?
Edited to add:
By building relationships with schedulers and project managers in about 20 MSCs, about 90% of my shops either never see a job board OR are done with a nice bonus, or both. You can do this; these are NOT MSCs that you are unfamiliar with if you have been around the forum or been a shopper for very long. None are "secret" routes.
