"Shipt" feedback

Not really an MSC but is recommended by one. Has anyone done this? It sounds similar to Postmates and other delivery services but I did not want to click the email link before checking here. Thanks!

I have not done it and am not interested but others may be. I got an email this morning about it from Tom Mills at Hsbrands:

"Dear Shoppers,

These are challenging times for all of us. As businesses close, services are cancelled - employees, vendors and you the shoppers are deeply impacted.
We understand that the loss of this “gig” work can have a great effect on you and your families.

I’m sure some of you have looked into other “gig” options and may be active with some of them, but for those of you looking for a replacement to this supplemental income we have a great opportunity for you.

HS Brands Global, in conjunction with SASSIE/Live Shopper and KSS have created a strategic partnership with Shipt.

Shipt is a membership-based grocery marketplace, enabling the delivery of fresh foods and household essentials. Through an easy-to-use app, friendly shoppers, and a commitment to exceptional service, Shipt simplifies lives and saves time for what matters most.

Given the current environment, we’re (Shipt) is experiencing an unprecedented rise in demand for home delivery of groceries, household essentials, and medications. To best meet the needs of the communities we serve, we’re actively adding thousands of new Shipt Shoppers across the country. Bringing in additional shoppers will also allow us to reduce delivery delays and expand delivery windows, while also providing earning potential within local economies to those who are affected by these challenging times."

Here is a link to a landing page Shipt created just for us. It puts you at the top of their screening list. As you can imagine they are getting thousands of applications a day, but they value our shoppers higher than new applicants as they are aware that you are already familiar with gig work and are a reliable and responsible option for them.

Good luck, we hope you can take advantage of this opportunity and this can be as helpful to you and your family as it is for Shipt. Hopefully we will be back up and running with mystery shops in the very near future.

Take care, be safe and stay healthy!

I had signed up several months ago. Tried for weeks to get work, but my area must be saturated and there was nothing to be had. After getting the email, I briefly thought about seeing if things had changed, then decided not to take a chance on encountering someone who had been exposed to the virus.

Orders are paid in advance. Orders are left at the customers door and a text notifies the customer of their arrival. If you start around 9 AM, Schnucks stores are pretty quiet. From 6 to 8 AM the elderly and early risers are shopping. I deliver product to 6 area Schnucks daily.
Thanks for the information.

Yeah, I got that email. I am going to avoid doing anything that involves touching things that other people have touched recently. That's just me, and it's because of my sister's immune compromised system. I won't be able to go visit her if I risk transmitting something to her.
I was able to find info online by someone who had used the service. The contractor would not only deliver the groceries but actually do the shopping in the store and verify/clarify the order with the customer by text when the desired items are not in stock, not the right size, vegetables are not perfect quality, etc. That could take a very long time. I think I will pass but thank you all.
Thanks for the info. I was considering thi. but since finding out here that you have to go to the store and actually shop for the items, I'll0010 pass.

Most items are out of stock. I think that the tip is automatically 5%.

Here's a general article:

It's a perfect match for mystery shoppers, most of whom will take crappy, really low paying shops anyway.
Shipt doesn't have a default tip at checkout. They don't let customers tip when they place the order. Customers tip after their order is delivered. The app or website will prompt them to rate you and give a tip.

Sorry, that might be Instacart? Or perhaps it is the fee for the worker?

It's an even nicer match for the CEOs, Tommy and Lori, who will get a cut of the wages of everyone who sings up using the custom sign up link. Love the fake concern for helping shoppers they expressed in that e-mail.

For the record, I am not getting a single dime. Tom just asked to use my name. He has told me he is not getting any money for this and I've known him for 23 years, so I would like to believe him. I can 100% swear to you that I am not getting any money off of this.
The Shipt signup link is a customized link created for HS Brands. The e-mail was sent with that link so that revenue can be shared with the affiliate promoting the link.

i know someone, not a MS, they make around $2000 on Shipt. They are not as dedicated as a MS :-)
I like the idea! am willing to participate in Shipt. However, the nearest location is at least ninety minutes away from home. Perhaps something will become available that is closer to me... smiling smiley

Tom Mills (CEO of HS Brands) does not have an account here, but he asked me to post this on his behalf:

Hello Shoppers,

I’ve already received thousands of responses, which is great!
Thought it would be best to address some comments/questions in this "group" manner.

Shipt is only working in the US right now. We had a little miscommunication in our haste to get this out quickly. Sorry for all of you Canadian Shoppers we sent this to.

I don’t know any more about this service than most of you. I know they are one of the biggest three in this space and they serve a great purpose at a time like this. I don’t know how they pay, what the pay is, how much work they have, where they have it, etc. I have nothing to do with Shipt. I just wanted to alert the shopper community of this opportunity and maybe get a few of you some extra money at a time like this. If you have an issue signing up or dealing with them in any way, it’s best to go to their help section.

I want to make sure everyone is clear on the motivation here…neither HSB, nor SASSIE nor KSS Int’l will make any money from this. This was an idea I had a few days ago, I reached out to Instacart, Shipt and Postmates and Shipt responded. They were appreciative that we would help them find IC’s since they currently have 25 full-time people doing this because of the high demand for their service. I know we had a bumpy road in 2019 with shopper pay, so this was a small attempt at saying thank you.

Conversely, depending upon the size of the response, I am going to ask Shipt to make a donation to a charity of my choosing (COVID related) as a thank you for our help. We’ll see.

We are not encouraging or suggesting that people go into an environment where they think they will be susceptible to COVID-19. Everyone will make their own decisions for their own reasons. If I can think of a way to create work for everyone without leaving the house, I will! The reality is people still need groceries and will be going to the supermarket. If only delivery services were allowed to go to the markets, we would all be safer.

If you are mistreated in any way and need to get to someone high up on the food chain, then reach out to me and I’ll see if I can help.

I am still trying to fully understand the stimulus package for my business, so I don’t want anyone to think I understand the bill from your “the gig worker” perspective. I have heard there are good options, but again this is not my expertise.

Last, I just want to thank all of you that sent over the nice, thankful comments. I really appreciate it. Anything positive right now goes a long way…

We (wife and twin girls) have been in quarantine for 15 days. So I have had lots of time to think!
I really hope this helps some of you quickly.

Good luck.
Stay healthy!

Tommy or another official representative from HS Brands really should have an account on here. Instacart, Amazon, Whole Foods, etc. workers are striking because of wages and working conditions. I wonder why Tommy would promote a similar company for which he cannot vouch. If Tommy really wants to help shoppers, I hope that he will spend his quarantine time figuring out how to speed up payments owed to HSB shoppers.

Yes, I am a vendor. We deliver/merchandise tortilla chips, salsa, and corn/flour tortillas to local grocery stores.

Sorry for the slow reply. I changed my hours and start work long before the stores open to avoid as much contact with people as possible. Yesterday I finished at 10 AM, napped, and spent the rest of the day gardening.

FWIW, on a local Nextdoor board, someone who shops for both services said that Shipt pays better than Instacart.

My wife has been a Shipt shopper for over a year. In our area, she can pick up assignments where she has to go in the store and purchase everything, and she earns a percentage of the total, plus she usually gets a tip. She has stopped those for now, but she is still doing delivery-only shops for Harris Teeter. They pay a flat fee, but they're pretty easy (just drive up to the store, store employees place the groceries in your car, and you leave on the customer's doorstep). Most of those customers tip pretty well too.
