$75.00 Auto Shops

These are two stage auto shops that require no test drive. You go in the first time and get the lowest price you can. You go back two or three days later and try to get the price lower again. The paperwork is tricky but not long. Research Services is the MSC. You have to do an on the phone training 1 time and that covers you for the rest of the year. I did 6 of these last week.

UHHHHH I did a bunch of these last year. Thank goodness for the high fee. Going to a car dealership and negotiating 2 TIMES to pretend to buy the car is rough. They turn the heat up at the second visit. I would rather take $50 for one time with another MSC....

There are several MSC's with Research Services in their name. The one with whom I am registered only has a bank in the available assignments country-wide right now. Do you have more info?

I need your advice. I'm having a hard time getting the salesman to give me a quote sheet. I'm asking for a price and he says "oh, its around $xx,xxx" and I tell him that I need it on paper to see for myself. He then goes "oh, well, we can discuss it once you are serious and ready to fill out the credit application.."

This isn't the first time that I've gone through this. Once, I told him that I'd submit to a credit check. He gave me the info that I needed and brought out a credit app for me to sign. I told him that I changed my mind and wanted to think about it some more. He says "well, then I can't allow you to leave with our deal offer because you can take it to a competitor and they may be willing to lower their price"

AnonGirl-That is pretty crazy, it almost sounds like you have been spotted as a mystery shoppper as that doesn't sound like normal procedure to me, either that or you made the dreaded comment, "I'm just looking for info", you got to make them think you will be buying that day. Anytime I've done similar shops I usually tell them that I prefer to have it financed through my bank and they usually give me a printout with vin number and price I can take to my bank.

Can't allow you to leave? What did he mean by that? Did you have info on paper he gave you in your hand and he wasn't going to let you leave without giving it back? If so it sounds like false imprisonment to me.

If the salesman thinks you're an MS'er, he's certainly reinforcing his chances of getting a totally negative report using those types of Gestapo tactics. If not, his prices are too high. It seems to me that because this is end of month/end of model year, they're so desperate, they'll do anything.

He said that I couldn't leave with the paper explaining the deal offer because I could take it to a competitor and they could possibly beat the price. He said some dealerships were willing to lose money just to take customers from each other..uh, sure.

Do these reports make it back to the dealership? I have a feeling that they data is being collected by a competitor car brand in order to find out what kind of deals the other dealerships are offering.

My sense is that all of the auto shops I have done were being done from the manufacturer so, as an example only, I might be seeing basically the same shop geared to a Buick dealership and a Chevy dealership.

I did one of these $75 shops.

The weird thing was: I have never seen a dealership just give up so easily. I told them I wanted to go home and think about it. They seemed totally okay with that. I am used to "real deals" where they want to hold you captive for 4 hours...not so here...

I also asked for a quote sheet. The manager said, "Well, it's this much_________" blah blah....I said I want a written quote. He finally gave it to me.

They still call...lol...

Sounds like when they make you sign the little handwritten piece of paper that says something to the effect of "if the salesman can get this offer approved by his manager then I will buy this car" which carries as much legal weight as the scrap paper it's written on.

I really do not like car salespeople.

You have to do a phone conference call before you can do the shops. I have now done 47 of them and have 2 more next week. I would rather do these than have to do the test drive and all the other nonsense. If you need help with these you can PM me and I will give you some information that will help you with these shops. Lisa is always looking for new people.

I love these shops but I finally had one where I could not get a written offer. After two visits and even arguing with the sales manager I could not get anything that was usable on the shop. At the end all I had was two business cards. That is one out of 48 shops. I have always gotten written offers before and usually had no problem getting them.

So may I ask what happened when you were unable to get a written offer? Were you paid for that shop? Just curious. I have done other assignments for the company you guys are talking about but haven't tried one of these car ones. I am leary.

I just did a new car shop the other day (one visit/less money/no test drive required, but can do it if you want), and I practically had to sell myself the car and guide the sales associate through www.dodge.com to get a price on a special order vehicle. Good grief!

I think if you don't get the written offer then you don't get paid...but I could be wrong...

It's almost like you have to pull your check book out and grab a pen, as if you are going to make a down payment and demand that you get your written offer..( for your protection, you tell them, lol)

I'm cooling down on the auto shops this year. I think all the dealerships know me already. But RSC is a great company to work with. There are dealerships that will not at any cost give you a written quote. The trick is to tell them that you are shopping between two vehicles from different manufacturers. I always use another "screen shot" from another make's dealership to get another. You just show them the other screen shot and tell them that you want something like that so that you can effectively compare pricing.

I did not get paid because I know not to even try. There has to be some kind of offer made in writing. Like I said before I have only had one out of now 52 like this. Normally getting the offer in writing is not a big problem. This particular dealerships sales manager is the problem.
