Coyle Hospitality Mystery Shopping

Coyle is one of my favorite mystery shop companies! I have never had a problem with the reviewers or assignments. They were my first higher end shop company, so maybe I'm loyal to their giving me a chance! It DOES take a while to do the reports, but by doing them, you become very aware of what the specific directives are and how to meet the demands of the clients who you work for. I have never had any payment issues from them. I think they are truly a wonderful group to work with!!!!! Wish there were more Coyle's out there!

I am down to about 2 hours on a fine dining report for Coyle. It has taken me a while to be able to get a report done in 2 hours.
I SO love this company. I always try to do my best. My partner and I confer on many details. I print out the narrative and we discuss.
SteveSoCal, thanks for your comments. NYC restaurants may be higher. I have shopped most of the restaurants in my area with Coyle, and am repeating them after one year. I understand their reimbursement limit is not on the job postings, but when I am assigned, it is there. My finished restaurant shops ranged from $120 to $165, mostly $135 - $150. Bars/apps only reimburse $50-$70. I have also done lunches for them for low reimbursements. I do not spend time on the reports with low reimb. and I got low scores, so since then, I only do dinners. I average 18 to 20 on scores.

Oh, btw, King George bar is a basement dump. Most of their other shops are great except Oracle's lunches in Redwood City, not worth the drive for cafeteria lunch and low reimbursement.

Yes, laur371. The editor emailed me and asked for "value for pricing" for each item in the Kitchen portion. I responded with the info and in addition, informed her that it was the first time any editor asked me for that. She took off one point anyway and would not adjust it. She claimed it was in the standards. My score was still 18-20, but I would prefer a 19 to an 18 because the one point deduction was not fair.
On Coyle's site I thought the payment for March shops would be in via paypal on between the 20th-25th of April. I've yet to get my reimbursement, and I've rung up close to $800 worth of charges for shops I've done for them (all approved, of course). Has anyone been paid for their march shops yet?
Misanthrope: I have not been paid for March yet.

Laur371: If it's allowed in your state, buy a digital voice recorder to tape your shops. You can actually relax and enjoy yourself. You need to remember to say a few weird things like, we're finished our entrees, so you can time how long it takes for them to be cleared. After each person comes to the table, record their description. You get all the timings from the recording. It is such a big help.

Thanks to all the forum members!
Thanks, Bayberry! Will consider it!

Misanthrope and Bayberry, they changed their guidelines to see payment anytime in the last week, not just up until the 25th. I have yet to receive payment either.

The hell? Where does it say that? On their site it still says "20th-25th" in the FAQ section.
Yeah, they didn't update the FAQ. There is another section that has "updates for March 2014" displayed. I also emailed their support to ask last month and was told its a new March 2014 policy going forward.

I was paid this afternoon.
I share the pain of those long reports. I did one shop for them back when they were doing a coffee company (confidentiality). I wrote probably the longest narrative ever for anyone and they were still not getting the details I had actually written in the report. It was too much pain for too little reward.

Yeah, I got my payment around 6 pm. EST. Big relief. I didn't realize how much I had put on my card until I took a look at it and I was like "I could... really use that reimbursement soon".
Should one be concerned about hotels that used to pay $125 reduce to $75/$50?? :/
What's the concern? Coyle recently hired a wave of new shoppers which is probably why they've lowered some payments.
The concern is the lower payments...
Oh. Well, if lower payments are your concern then the pay reduction should concern you. Obviously, your question was a rhetorical one. tongue sticking out smiley
Coyle usually sets their payment scale based on the amount of work and desirability of the assignment. I see a range of hotels available that vary from $50 to $200 right now, so perhaps something changed with the assignment that you are referencing.

The pay overall is so low, relative to the amount of work involved, that I don't think $50 would affect my decision to take an assignment much. I can't imagine that anyone takes these hotel assignments for the pay.
The one I'm referencing was for three nights. You are right about the pay overall, but more is still better! smiling smiley
There are a few now that go as low as $20... Ahh, Coyle is not dataquest. What's happening? lol
Agreed that more is better.

Those 3 night evaluations are too much work at pretty much any price. The selling point seems to clearly be the opportunity for the stay.

Now...the $20 properties don't make any sense given my argument above. Once you take away the appeal of the 5-star visit, you need to start compensating the evaluators better, IMHO.
The $20 ones are in the middle of nowhere, as well! If you're gonna pay me $20, at least send me to a beautiful resort!
That's my point, Boo. I'd be much more inclined to take $20 for three nights at the 5-star beach property and ask $200 for the 3-star place in the middle of nowhere...
Oh, I didn't even notice that's what you meant! Hopefully the rates will climb as the deadline nears.
I just finished my first job for Coyle, and was impressed with their patience and help, always there to direct me in the right direction. I love them, and the pay was more for a brunch than any others out there!

Congrats. You are the happy shopper story of the day.

Just got a great email thanking me, saying, jumping into this high rated hotel took courage. The report was more detailed than most, and even though they had to get more info. out of me, we both stuck it out and report is now accepted. Many other MC's would have given up or deducted me for their time. Now thinking of taking a hotel shop in San Francisco (where I was born). They really help a newcomer, so, don't be afraid, just jump in......

Congrats! Did you do a hotel stay or did you work on a meal at a hotel? I just saw your post last month that you had your first assignment...
I did a brunch at a great hotel...was great. Now looking for a hotel, I say as I bite my nails.
