Question about "Make an Offer"

Can someone explain the timing of "make an offer" from Market Force? They say I won't be notified if my offer is rejected. So it's Wednesday and I submit a MAO for a lunch shop on Saturday--when can I decide to do something else for lunch on Saturday? Do I have to wait until the shop period has passed, to know for sure my MAO wasn't (or won't be) rejected? That's obviously ridiculous, but there's nothing to indicate that's not the case.

However, today I got an email offering a shop at a higher rate than is on the website, with availability for the next ten days. But this one doesn't use the same language as the MAO on the website; the email says if you're selected for the shop, you'll get a confirmation message like you do for all shops that are assigned, and if you're not selected, "you will not receive a reply or a confirmation messages like you usually do when picking up a shop."

Every confirmation message I've ever gotten has been instantaneous, so does the "like you usually do" mean instantaneous, and if I don't get an instantaneous confirmation then it means I'm rejected? I could see that in the email case, where they'll just give it to the first person to respond.

But what about MAO? For example, do they sit on an offer for $25, waiting to see if somebody else offers $22, and if somebody does, they give the $22 person the shop? In which case you couldn't infer anything from not getting an instantaneous confirmation, and be stuck waiting until the shop period has expired to be sure you're not going to get the shop.

Usually they decide on the MAO pretty quickly. You won't get an email unless it's accepted, but you can tell if it's rejected by going back to the website and opening up the shop, if they shoot you down it will say something to the effect of "The make an offer has been declined. You can accept it at the current fee or decline it or make another offer," which has to be at least $3 lower than your previous offer.

I'm assuming your email was a "Samantha," where if you want the shop you tell them which of the offered days you're available. In my experience you'll usually know within a handful of hours if you got selected. But no, you will not get an email if you're passed over. Again, the best way to check on that is to go to the job board and see if the job is still there. If it's gone and you haven't heard from them, you didn't get it.

Applying for shops does not make bank. If a better opportunity than the pending application comes up, I would take it without hesitation (and withdraw my application).
If a shop application has been assigned to me, I would honor my commitment and not take the newer/better opportunity.

MAO is usually accepted the same day. I used to wait 24 hours before I scheduled something else it it's place if I was planning a route. Or I would find a job somewhere else if I just need an excuse to go to that city.
Like Koko said, go back to the job board, open the assignment as if you're going to apply and it will show the status of your offer. I learned that by accident years ago.
I did a MAO and it was declined as I saw when I tried to lower my offer by $3. I couldn't. With the note saying it was declined was a note the shop had been locked by someone.

Perhaps my offer insulted someone? I always start my MAO at $3 more than I want the shop for so I can play their game.

I also think you can keep the same dollar amount but change the date you'll do the shop, but I might be wrong.
When phone schedulers are actively trying to assign a shop, they'll lock it so it can't be self assigned by a shopper while they're working on it.
That must be what happened because the shop disappeared. Guessing whoever they called took it.
I got an email from Samantha too, and I received my confirmation email within a couple of hours. I have never received a request to make my own offer though, with any of the companies.

It's not a request. It's an Icon next to the shop on the job board. When you click on it, you have the option of submitting a higher price. Around here, the jobs aren't getting to the point where the MAO option is showing up very often. Morons, I mean people, are taking them at dang near the $9 initial price. Most shops are gone by the time they raise them to $11. My minimum is $20 and I haven't done one since February and I had to accept $18 for that one.
