Troubling AI Shop Wanting IDs

I’ve worked for Storecheckers in the UK in the past. Here’s an excerpt of a shop notification they sent their shoppers. Who in their right mind would agree to this?
It’s bad enough we’ve given copies of our DLs and SS# to these MSC’s, many of which are not reputable. God only knows who they’re selling our personal info to.

‘The task from your perspective is very simple - we would need you to post a valid, in-date, US drivers license to the Ingenium Lab in the UK. This would then be analysed and utilised to help build an AI age-verification platform. Your personal details would not be stored, and your ID would be posted back to you after a couple of days. I would recommend that you would need to be comfortable being without your ID for 3 weeks to cover postage times’.

Nope! Hard pass

Please don't feed the MSF trolls!

Feeding the MSF trolls bread or other human food is detrimental to their health and the environment. It can lead to malnutrition, disease, and behavioral problems in trolls, as well as water pollution and the spread of pests. Trolls are capable of finding their own food sources and don't require human assistance.
Three weeks? Yikes.

Someone who doesn't get out much and can use their passport for all ID situations, that's who.

I’ve been worried about identity theft with this type of work for a while. Getting protection for it seems vital. Finding the source after the fact would be next to impossible.

Sooner or later there will be a major breach with one of these companies. The fact that they’re trying to overtly obtain ID’s for the use of another company for AI purposes clearly indicates the lack of concern they have for protecting our personal info. I’m getting out.

This as well. Do they REALLY know why their client "needs" this?

I'm thinking in specific about a friend of friend situation I heard about recently. Under 21 acquired a fake ID (purchased online) that scans as valid. The scan links to an identity that doesn't match the card front. Doordash reported their attempt to buy alcohol with this ID and the FBI is involved now.

So, how did the place creating fakes get a copy of the back of a valid ID to use? Seems easy enough to make up a story and offer a few $$ to have people let you borrow theirs.

Is it even legal to loan out your ID? And if it's your license, you can't drive while it's gone. Something's fishy.

There’s no way I’d agree to this.

I had one job demand I upload my drivers license and give them access to a close up of my face to “verify my ID.”

I walked out and told them exactly why. This is not a government facility requiring high level security clearance so there’s no reason why you need this.

I also informed the MSC. They weren’t please so I asked them if they’d allow it. No reply.

There is one thing about the MSCs in this industry. Absolutely no shame in their game.
We each decide where the line is - the one we won't cross.
someone on Reddit posted about this. It sounds like they are going to do this and they have to let the company know how much he wants paid for this. They are asking for suggestions.
