Nothing is free. The dining is exchange for work.
The $0-$40 fee is not important to me in the grand scheme of things although it helps.
I've consumed some great alcoholic drinks at $25+tax+tip. The work effort is worth it to me although I don't feel that way when writing the report. :-)

This is the problem I have with the requirement to purchase an alcoholic beverage. For me, the primary attraction of a dining assignment is the food. If the drink is $5 and the reimbursement is $30, that is a 16.6% reduction is my pay. I MUST drink water with food and I do not desire alcohol.
In addition to the above, unless the strict adherence to ordering suits my taste, I leave those shops to the FREE food folks. I neither enjoy cold sandwiches nor single or double ingredient pizzas. Finally, you can have all the fine dining shops, as, for me, no food exists that is worth the MSC's payment for those jobs. As that old adage does, though, one shopper's meat can easily be another's poison.
