Cell Phone Shop

Hello! I'm new and just completed my registration with GfK. I have three jobs available to me (to self-assign) and they are all cell providers. Since the jobs have been listed for a few days, it makes me wonder if these types of jobs are particularly difficult? Any insight offered would be very much appreciated.

Once you created your post it generated a link to other threads about phone shops. You also might want to read up on GFK.

Cell phone shops are not overly difficult for a new shopper. As with any assignment, be sure of all the details you need to remember. GFK reports are primarily yes/no questions and depending on your answer may require an explanation. The explanations are quite different than a narrative and only need to be anywhere from one to three sentences long. You will be required to take a test prior to the assignment. Make sure to have the guidelines open in one window and read the questions carefully.

Thanks for answering again, Lisa! Your suggestion to read up on GfK makes me a bit nervous, does this mean they are troublesome to work for? Doing board search now.
Not necessarily troublesome, but there are things to watch out for. The tests can be tedious, must be passed with 100% and you only have three tries. If you cannot pass it on the first two tries, reach out to a scheduler before trying again and they can often help you pass.

I would say the biggest thing before taking these shops is being sure the location is open. GFK pays a closed location fee that is less than half the regular fee. So either know the store is still there or only take the assignment if it is on your way to somewhere else. It is not fun to drive out of your way for only $3.

The upside with GFK, the reports are some of the easiest and they pay within 2 to 3 weeks.

To make sure I am understanding you correctly, if a shop I have been assigned is now closed- they will still pay me a small portion for letting them know the shop is closed? Sorry to be so daft, all the lingo is new to me. smiling smiley
You are not being daft. Not all companies handle it the same way either. Some will not pay anything, others pay a reduced fee and still others will pay the full fee. GFK and MarketForce are two that go with the reduced fee. Virtually all mystery shopping companies will be clear that it is your responsibility to find out a store is open during the time you plan to shop. With most retail establishments it is easy and only unusual circumstances would have you finding them closed. These cell phone stores are a completely different animal. Often the store being shopped is not a corporate store, it is one of their authorized retailers. The list provided by the wireless carrier to the mystery shopping company is not always up to date. It is an extra step, but not a big deal to call ahead and verify their address and hours of operation.
