For me, it's more about the principle of the thing. I would like the choice to be paid by either check or direct deposit to my real bank account, or even direct deposit to a prepaid debit card that I choose (not my employer).
I don't have a US Bank around here, so if it's only US Bank where ATM withdrawals are free that wouldn't work for me. I'm not denying that it works for you (and others), just that it won't work for me. Unless my bank is one of the ones that allows free withdrawals (not likely) that would mean I have to go to two different banks to move my money into my bank account. With a paper check I only have to go to one bank--mine.
