FGX (Merchandising)

Anyone else work for FGX? I got the weirdest memo this morning. In our area, a new contract for a small-town discount chain was attained and they want us to take over at these small stores. We were also told that we have to take on all of the new stores within 30 miles for a 40 minute assignment once a month. Um.... After taxes, the gas will eat up that 40 minutes. Anyone else get this memo? Are you getting drive time or mileage?

*whew* False alarm. They are looking into compensation fro travel. Also, each store within 30 miles of me is also within 30 miles of someone else.
Check on NARMS. When Foster Grant (FGX) needs someone in a given area, they ask other folks in the area for referrals then put it out on NARMS.
Now I get mileage, but have to deduct the first 20 miles as "reasonable commute." No one in their right mind would drive 20 miles for a half hour visit... That being said, I do both distance jobs at once, so the 90 mile trip pays me for 70 of the miles instead of just 50. Two, half-hour visits take me three hours.

My area supervisor is great, though. She has come down to do some of the po-dunk locations since I cannot do the resets that require regular business hours.

I do like working for FGX. I put all of my pay straight into the 401K plan so I get to "keep" the money. (When I worked for Driveline I ended up with about $2 an hour because it bumped us into a higher tax bracket.)
Maybe we should have a Merchandising thread now. We have several posts about Family Dollar, FGXI, etc.
Quite frankly, I'm not too concerned with mileage. I have done a couple of circuits as an IC and count each store as a different trip. The mileage alone ends up more than the fee so, at tax time, I'll probably come out ahead.
I keep trying to get on with them everytime something opens up in my area. It sounds like it would work well with my other merchandising/mystery shopping projects. Hopefully someday...
