Feedback for New Forum Design Part II

I would rather read the threads than the ads. I only seem to be able to read 3 responses before getting an ad.

I get the site has to earn a living, but if I can't read the thread in some semblance of continuity...It really isn't worth reading. I find that sad, because I'm still new and I need the experienced members insight.

@Boutique------> if you get AdBlock, Jacob won't get paid. And I'm all for him getting paidsmiling smiley
It's a great mobile platform! Love it!

One thing I've noticed is, often when I read down through the bottom of a thread, I see a line about the reply being hidden and to click to view it. Sometimes the first unseen post is one of mine. Other times, it's some random member I know I've not hidden. Either way, there is usually a bunch of posts after the initial, hidden one.
.
Jacob, Are you only paid per click on the ads? When people run AdBlock, does it lessen the number of page impressions, or are they still counted?

I have a problem that occurs only on this forum and is new since the new design. The page is "unstable," in the following way: the scroll bar does not "hold" where I place it. Periodically, and often, it pops me up to the very top of a thread. This happened 3 times in the time that it took me to type this.

I have to describe this as stop and go and flickery. Mine jumps around like Wales discussed, and I also freeze up a lot. When that happens I get out and get back in and it's usually okay for a while. This freezing on the page happens A LOT. Page to page not processing smoothly and up and down the page is not working well either.

All this blue is unpleasant. I find it difficult to read. I also find it difficult to find what I need on any page, I think it's mostly the blue not being really legible to me. Black is a good ink color, what the human eye is used to reading. Red would be great for the new button. I so don't need this blue at all. And the stuff tha'st blue on blue like the posting guidelines, please, gimmie a break. Although I love the forum and this new appearance is clean and crisp it's not nearly as easy for me to read as the original.

When I click on the Don't Shop for Maritz thread I can see only the first page. At the bottom of the first page I see a Message Hidden - Click to see message (or something like that). When I click that link I can see the following pages. BUT, the next time I click on the Don't Shop for Maritz thread, same deal. First page only, link for Message Hidden etc, and no subsequent pages showing as existing. How do I get rid of the Message Hidden link and what caused it?

That better describes what I referred to above.

@TechSavvy & @MDavisnowell -- I fixed the issue described. It was a problem with the "toggle" function. Please let me know if you still encounter this issue!

Thank you for alerting me!

@TechSavvy -- I'm paid both for clicks on ads, and for impressions. I've tried to make the ads not too obstrusive in this design. I'm a little conflicted about having an ad immediately after the first post. But, there have been very few complaints about the ad placement, so maybe it is ok.

@MA Smith -- I definitely don't want the ads to disrupt the reading experience. I appreciate your feedback.

Jacob
I find the placement of the ads obtrusive. Would prefer they be on either left or right margin, not horizontally. I appreciate the clean, streamlined spacing, and member profile showing only as a drop down.

When replying to a PM, the recipient's name is so dinky, it's difficult to read. Not sure what the minus sign indicates, hovering does not define.

New replies are not as prominent as before.

On a lunch shop today, while enjoying a Chardonnay and Stuffed Portobella, I checked in with the forum on my phone. It is now much easier to read on my phone.
An error message appeared twice when logging on with my computer a moment ago. The message is below. It appeared in the top bar when I first entered the forum and on a second page when I first attempted to access the "Meta" section of the forum. When I clicked on my bookmark for the forum a second time, the message disappeared and I was able to see and reply to this thread. I'm running Firefox 38.0.5 on Windows 7.

I am getting similar error messages constantly this AM. Sometimes I can scroll down from the messages and read the first post in a thread, but nothing more.

I don't know if this has been answered but could the margin be set so that we don't have to go all the way to the right to read the posts? For instance, when I am posting this, there is a margin. Yet when I read the posts, there seems to be an indefinite margin.
When I started a new topic I received this message:

Phorum Database Error
Sorry, a Phorum database error occurred.

notified by email about the error.
Please, try again later!

I tried again and it went through. What did I do to cause the Phorum Database Error?
Is it normal for our own posts to be toggled? I believe all mine are until I click to view them. Sometimes every post past mine is hidden until I view mine.
@TechSavvy -- I think you've accidentally "toggled yourself." Once you make one of your messages visible, click on your name, then click on "Toggle User Visibility." Let me know if that works!
I didn't know we could toggle ourselves. All right then. Next time I get snarky I'll toggle myself.

Personally, I liked being able to see how many posts a user has made. That seems to be gone now.

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
I'm glad the number of posts is gone. This puts everyone on a more equal basis in the forum and that's good. That number didn't mean much anyway as it only reflected frequency, not quality. We can still click on a name and check the profile if we want to know how long someone's been around. I would find a membership date beside the forum name much more interesting than a count of how many times a person posted.
