Feedback for New Forum Design Part II

Ah, so I was ignoring myself! Why would posts made after mine sometimes not appear, though?

@TechSavvy -- let me know if anything like that happens again. It was a bug, but I am fairly confident I fixed it.
Argh. Trying to create a new sig line is frustratingly similar to a MS shop report with an unknown character count. While huge sig lines annoyed some people, now they have been made smaller they are unobtrusive and clearly defined so as not be confused with part of the post. Why in the world do we have to also have such a limited amount of characters? As you can see, I could only include six of Ghandi's seven sins.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Because I liked your sig line about if you have to ask if it's too early to drink wine.... so I told Jacob to limit the characters allowed so you wouldn't be able to change it to Ghandi's seven sins.

Your devious plot worked. I will change it back tomorrowtongue sticking out smiley

Hoping not to offend, but I choose invisibility of sig lines, and appreciate that option.

What I am finding offensive and obtrusive are the ads. They are much too much in my face, embodied in the guts of MSF posts, and impossible to ignore. Volition ad placement, as an example, is easily separated, and ignorable, from shoppers' posts. I was searching the web today for a do-it-yourself plan to build a deck planter. Man-o-man, did I quickly depart sites with in-your-face ads.

Shopper/members freely participate here. I don't begrudge ad click revenue, until and unless it disrupts shopper participation.
I thought the option to hide sig lines was a wonderful solution for anyone who found them obtrusive. Alas, it still doesn't stop me from wanting a few more characters and a character count. I tried to shorten mine a couple of times and couldn't see what was happening until after finding one of my own posts.

For some reason I don't see too much more of the ads than before the switch. Does device and/or browser make a difference?

@Mert -- thank you for the feedback, particularly about the ads. Based on your feedback, I've modified their placement significantly. Hopefully they will no longer be disruptive. Your continued feedback is valuable to me. Thank you!
@JJ------where is ......................................never mind, smiling smiley. I found it . I am not adapting so fast.

Also, I have never toggled anybody but a few posters are hidden from me. Is that something on your part that can be fixed?

I'm still trying to get used to it, but all of this up and down motion is making me cra-zy!

I intend to live forever. So far, so good.
@stilllearning -- what up and down motion? Maybe it is happening when the ads are loading? That is definitely not something I want. Please give me more details so I can fix it!
@JacobJ: I think it's the ads. I open one PM and everything visibly moves down (as I assume an ad loads); I open the next PM and everything visibly moves up (as I assume an ad loads).

Haha! I can't help but think of @Michael C and his sig line every time it does.

Personally, I liked being able to see how many posts a user has made. That seems to be gone now.

Click on your name. It appears with your profile, number of posts, our Toggle rights and PM.

Each page still seems like it is very busy or congested.
I like not having the number of posts visible under the name of each poster. I also like having :"new poster" under the names of newbies. If I want to see how many posts a forum member has, all I have to do is click on his name and I can see his profile, number of posts made, and I can view all his posts. Much more efficient. I like it a lot.
@JacobJ: I just saw a message at the top of my screen which says, "Firefox has blocked the outdated plugin Adobe Flash from running on www.mysteryshopforum.com". When I click "allow", the up and down motion stops. Problem solved. smiling smiley

The new format is really very nice! Thank you for all of your hard work.

I liked seeing the number of posts. While I recognize that quality is more important than quantity, the number of posts provides very useful background information to me. Someone asks a question. My answer may be different if I see they have made 2,000 posts versus 20. It's sort of a "know your audience" thing. If there are conflicting answers in a thread, I MAY add more weight to the opinion of someone who has posted a few hundred times versus a few times. I know I can look it up, and I am familiar with the names if many members, but for those I don't know, number of posts is a helpful differentiator, to me.

Also, what defines the "new member" designation? Is it number of posts, length of time as a member, or something else?

I miss the section that showed the newly started threads in order by day. I don't read every thread. The old way, I could be sure I had seen all the threads. Now, there doesn't seem to be any order. I often see the same discussion listed twice.
Much better. Thank you.

I've had that same problem too but when I clicked 'allow,' it became normal. One thing that happened to me a couple of times or maybe three times, as I read the posts, the last ones turned too small and blurred and I could hardly read them. They are normal now. But they happened when I was just trying to read this thread. At times it would just let me reach page 1. When I finally reached page 3, the whole blurry thing would start and the posts would be unreadable.
@risinghorizon -- this is the first I've heard of that blurring. Please let me know if it happens again!
It takes one more step to see the number of posts by a member. Also, it does not always work on my iPhone 5. I can see the heading, but not the actual posts.

# of posts/time on forum displays. Nice. But if you right click on each of those and the name, you can open a new link - that being the thread itself, not any of the user information.

Happily shopping Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut
Thanks for putting back the post numbers, and I like the addition of time on forum!

I thought I was having problems with my keyboard because it was locking up on me when typing in this forum. Not so. I discovered it works perfectly in Word and I can then copy to the forum from Word. I am using Explorer. I also have Chrome and I'll try that. I've been able to type this one directly with a lot of corrections and sticking.

Okay, that one went through. I'll try my real post again.

I'm trying to paste from Word and I think that's the problem. I'll try cleaning up the post per Scanman's post and see what happens.

@MDavisnowell

I believe that the problem you were encountering when pasting from Word is now fixed

PLEASE let me know if it happens again!

Thank you very much!
