scanner

Is it essential to have a scanner at home and business cards to start out mystery shopping? I plan to get them but just don't have them yet.

Most MSC's want either the receipt and business card scanned, however if you don't have one you can Fax them or take a photo and up load it to the report. I have a printer, scanner, fax and copier all in one mine is a Kodak ESPOffice 6150 it is about a year old. The cartridges for this are about half of what HP cartridges cost anmd the qua.lity s very good.
If I understood you correctly, newbie9618 - no you don't need business cards of your own for anything. The only time you let the CSR's / managers know who you are is for reveal shops and the MSC will provide you with a letter stating your purpose.

You should have a scanner at home. It will save you a lot of hassle. Check PLbell627's Kodak or HP Officejet all-in-One. I got mine last year for $50. You don't need anything fancy, but some MS companies will only accept scanned receipts, businessc ards, etc.
If you are on a budget, free working scanners can be found in the free section on craigslist.org.

Just be certain it is not an oldie and will be compatable with your pc. Computer shops charge about $50.00 to install it for you and it pays for itself in a matter of weeks when you can then accept shops from some msc's such as Trendsource which refuse to accept any faxed receipts.
I definately recommend getting a scanner. I've taken photos of receipts with my digital camera, but they can be a little blurry.

I have a scanner for home and I recently purchased a wand scanner for $90. I love the wand scanner and use it the most.
I purchased a scanner off Craig's List - new in original, sealed packaging - for $20 this spring. It has paid for itself many times over since then. I really can't imagine trying to do a significant amount of mystery shopping without easy access to a scanner.
I went to Best Buy and got a Brother all in one for $79. I paid $99 .... there was a $20 rebate. This machine scans, copies, prints and faxes.
