Late night report writing

Just to elleviate some stress: If it gets too late and have already done however many reports and my eyes are crossing, I always email scheduler saying something like, "Shop is completed. Report is on the way. May be a little late". It is always appreciated by schedulers and then you can get some sleep and do a better job in the am.

Well CaAs then this would not apply to you. No worries for you. However a lot of us have many reports to do after getting home.
This is so true! I am usually writing 5-10 reports a day, sometimes more!
I am exhausted physically and emotionally, mostly from visiting my father daily at a skilled nursing care facility and dealing with my mom. He had a mini-stroke around Memorial Day.

I actually had to write one of my schedulers recently to let her know that my reports were late because I was simply exhausted, but I would submit them the next morning. I also told her I did not deserve the bonuses for the shops and asked her to remove them.

"And miles to go before I sleep."
Wow BBBB My thoughts are with you. Did you have any trouble with the scheduler? I never do.
Thanks, cynb. No, she was very understanding. I don't know if she would remove the bonuses. I know I will feel better if she does.

Whether she does or not, I now owe her and will try to help her out next month. This reminds me of another thread about whether a shopper will shop at a loss. To repay a favor, I certainly will. =)

I feel sorry for the editors, too, because this put extra pressure on them. Been there, done that. Didn't even get a T-shirt. ;-)
I wouldn't offer the bonuses back. Whenever possible I try to deal with all of that in advance. Just last week was a road trip and one company is relatively new to me since I've only completed about 3 shops for them. When scheduled I e-mailed and explained how far I would be driving and asked if reporting the next day would be an issue. I got a nice reply thanking me for letting them know the situation and it would not be a problem at all. Most companies try to be accommodating if it can still fit within client requirements.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
That is a good suggestion. Sometimes I'm up till 2 AM finishing reports with very long narritives. So much easier when fully awake in the AM.
IMHO, the worst thing they can say is nosmiling smiley

Sometimes it is hard to do a report in the evening especially if you have had two drinks. I complete the midnight shop first and then start of confirm the 24-48 hour shops by entering my times and confirmation. If you have started the shop report they at least know it is completed. Always email and let them know you are going to be late.
I do many lae night reports. I do between 1 to 12 shops per day depending on the distance and the complexity of the shops. Many times I don't get homw until 9 pm. I start writing them the minute I walk in the door. I have stayed up as late as 2am to finish reports. But, there are other nights I am literally falling asleep typing. I send and e-mail and notify the schedulers and have oly had a problem once or twice with this in over two years of shopping.

I used to fill out the reports in the order I did the shops. I now look at the due times and the late turn in times and do them in order of which has the shortest turn-in time. This works out very well.
Yes thank you. I have never had a scheduler w/ a problem with this. It often becomes a prob on the we when you cannot get ahold of schedulers but documentation is always the way to go.
Any schedulers want to reply? I would help us all.

How about I stayed up until 5 AM doing reports yesterday ?

Admittedly my computer is slow and so am I because I put a new keyboard on which is giving me the "fat finger" so you have to go back every 3 words and correct - besides that a couple of fingers on left hand are numb so when I try to hit "S" or shift sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.

Old keyboard was much better but I spilled grape juice on it, lol, and it doesnt work anymore. You'd think it would have appreciated the drink !

I also notice when my mind is tired, the fingers are not spelling that well.
I am a bad person to ask as I am such a night owl that I would almost always rather stay up and get them done. I tend to have a lot of trouble sleeping and knowing I have unfinished shops just makes me toss and turn and not sleep any way. Tomorrow is an 11 shop day, so will be up until the wee hours. The next day is a 1 shop day and that shop needs to be done after 4pm, so I will just sleep in.

For people who are not like me, I think it would be best to let schedulers know before the day of the shop that there are likely to be issues, but hopefully if they are humans they will be accepting when things happen. I just would be careful about not forming a habit with any one company.
Hey, Busy. I just wanted to say that my thoughts are with you. It must be so hard to extend yourself even a little on top of the stress you already have. Peace and rest to both you and your father.

Sending the best,

Jen

Almost every company will give extended time on the shops since you submitting the shop is only the first step in the process and it needs to go through quality control, editing, and other processes depending on client requirements.

Having a solid reputation with the msc(s) helps alot too.

I've been doing this more now that I've taken on more shops and have gotten more acquainted with schedulers who handle my "regulars." If I attempt a shop and screw up on the little things in the beginning, I'll send an e-mail. I'd rather work on it in the morning with a fresh mind than have to get an editor email about my bad math and grammar. I've never had a scheduler refuse and for that, I really do enjoy working with them. I do try my hardest to get my reports done on time, but sometimes when I get home late in the evening or night and I'm faced with a stack of receipts, a page full of times and half descriptions and a bajillion self-texts, I need time just to sort through it all and organize it anyway before I can actually input the information. Not to mention the photos and scanning and such. I'm also mad at myself for just figuring out that I could Bluetooth images from my phone to my MacBook instead of emailing them. Any guesses on how many times I've waited hours for an email with multiple images to get sent and received to/from myself? LOL.
