Movie Theater Checks/Shops

Sammy, Did you save any emails from Criny you could write and ask about it? ( just a guess )

I've done several movie shops and my favorites are just watching one show and doing a report based on just one film, concession stand etc. At least the time you spend is about the same if you went to the movies anyway.

I've also done overt shops where you count things, or take photos and can complete within 20 mintues or so. The one thing that doesn't seem too fun would be to do those where you watch several screens and you only get to watch the ads! How can this be fun for about 8 dollars? Can someone who has also done shops where you have to view the entire film but several times? I haven't done those but don't those take forever?

mleighb, you have to view them according to how many screens they are being played. You have to really like the film because you have to watch it again and again as you have to report on the quality of the audio, the video, the demography of the audience, etc. The pay is much better plus your ticket and your partner's are reimbursed. Yes, it is time consuming if it is shown in many screens. But once I did it with my friend and my son and it was fun.
To mleighb & risinghorizon...not sure which MSC you two are referring too...I've been with VeriTes for almost 5yrs now...I do trailer chks(every fri.), Lobby Checks, Sneak Previews, and most profitable Open Checks(which are either 1, 2 or 3 day)...

The Open Checks require you to watch the feature just once or twice (if in both 2D & 3D format)...however you have to check the audience count for each Showtime and for every screen the feature is playing on...this is where the spending a lot of time maybe involved...I say MAYBE...because depending on location of the theater to where you live you don't have to stay there all day...also if the theater is located in a large shopping mall with restaurants there's plenty to fill in the gaps while waiting in between start times...plus it's not necessary for you to be there at the start of the movie...actually it better to come in during the middle or the last 15-30minutes before it ends to do your body count...that why you can get a more accurate count...you don't get Open Checks too often...the last two Opens I did were for Hangover III & Despicable Me...both where 3day checks (Fri, Sat, & Sun) I made $190 for Hangover and $350 for Despicable me...you can plan to make $60- $125 for a 1day Open Check...it depends on the feature and how many screens & show times the theater will offer...my biggest ever Open was Avatar -3 day check($450)...

Also with VeriTes you don't have to purchase your tickets and you can have someone assist you but it usually isn't necessary...

I average about $45-60 per week with the trailer checks...keep in mind I do them on Friday and if I catch the first showings I'm done by 2 or 3 and that checking 2 locations...hope this info helps...
blagwumin, I am not even signed up with Verites. There are different types of movie shops. They are not all the same. Your experience is obviously different from mine but that's just the way it is.
Risinghorizon...my apologies if I offended you in some way...my response was really directed to mleighb's question regarding watching the same movie several times...I have done Movie shops for MSC's other than VeriTes...because of the consistency of Verites's shops I decided to do Movie shop exclusively with them...I have guaranteed locations unless I'm unable to complete the assignment...but I always get 1st choice...VeriTes does not have a job board where you are competing with others on a first come basis...you are assigned a scheduler who works with you directly.

However I must say I've never been asked to watch a feature more than Twice in one day by an MSC's other than VeriTes...and this is always a Movie that is playing in 2D & 3D and they want the sound & screen quality checked for both formats...but even this is rare...it's usually one or the other...I'm curious are you buying a ticket for each showtime when you are being asked to watch multiple times? I don't see how this could be profitable unless you are being paid a fee as well as being reimbursed for the tickets...even if this is the case...you're having to pay upfront and wait usually 30-60 days to be reimbursed...

As I was composing this response...I do remember doing a Movie check for an MSC (not VeriTes) where I had to purchase tickets for 3 show times and watch the movie each time...and act as though I was just a regular movie goer...this was the most difficult assignment ever...I couldn't use a kiosk or purchase tickets online I had to purchase tickets from the ticket booth or inside...the layout of the theater was such you could go in to screen the feature was playing on without going thru an Usher...you should have seen the looks I got seeing the same feature 3 times in one day...then to top it off it took forever to get paid...that when I decide never again for that MSC...

The thing I like about this forum is the exchange of information that usually benefits all...again no offense intended...
Certified Field Associates was geared primarily towards doing the theater checks. It was Certified Field Associates that merged with Market Force. They now refer to them as the "blue" or the "gray" portals.

I used to do some for Hanover (don't know if they're still around) Certified, and currently A Closer Look

Please know that many/most of these are reimbursement only - no cash pay. But if you are a theater buff, this is a good deal. A lot to look out for and remember though.
As I said, the theatre shops are not all the same. I used to have permanent theatre assignments but I declined to go on because I did not want to do it every week. And they had different quirks to it. But I have done a variety of them and I would not question anyone who has done a different version because the shops do have different set ups. And this is true for other mystery shopping assignments, especially if handled by another company. Even CFA theatre shops are not all the same.
Has anybody ever seen shops again for Movietickets.com???

Saw a few a couple years back, but never did one or saw them posted again.

There also was a shop for Fandango on only one rare occasion.

Thanks and FYI to movie buffs:
www.movie-view.com to sign up for free movie test screenings.
They usually prefer to choose patrons under age 40, so make sure you are accurate when signing up.
Nielsen NRG runs this program.
Thanks Arch! Just signed up.

Ooh Thanks! So helpful. I need to add this company.

I also just noticed that certified paid me without including the bonus! !~SIGH~! No response yet from emailing them about it. Their "contact" portal is sort of odd.
