I flaked on MarketForce. Do you think they will forgive me?

I flaked for the first time in my 5 year mystery shopping career. I had a merchandising to do on the weekend which was paying really well. It was set up for Sunday. I read their instructions, and even posted on here, and I could not figure out for the life of me what I was supposed to do. I got so stressed about it I couldn't sleep properly on Saturday night. I called Market Force twice and they sounded annoyed with me for calling and were basically no help at all. So come Sunday when I was supposed to do the shop, I called Market Force and said I couldn't do it. I did not give a reason why.

I'm sorry I did it now and wish I had just turned up at the location and winged it, maybe I would have gotten a helpful employee. Anyway, do you think that I have burned my bridges with them for doing it? I really would like to try my hand at merchandising.

I came really close to flaking myslef this evening. I had such a horrible migraine that my migraine meds wouldn't help. I decided to do the shop because I just couldn't bring myself to flake. I sucked it up at the loudest restaurant in town. It was pure torture. But I'm happy I did it.
Now when you say "flaked" exactly what does that mean? hmmmmm... After FIVE years of service I would HOPE they would not ax you. But if that's flaking, I flaked 2-3 times this week. But I sent them update messages frequently and they replied back. I also explained WHY I could not fulfill the assignment. I tried to do it but it was quite confusing and if I would have stayed at Walmart until I heard from a manager(from the listed number) like the instructions said on Sunday when I went; I would have been there til Tuesday when they got back to me.

This is the dark side of our business. You called not once, but twice, attempting to get help. None was forthcoming, you were not prepared to do the job and you had two choices, "wing it" and possibly not get paid for your work, or cancel. The fact that you have to now sweat about the fall out is really sad. Attempt to contact someone higher up in the food chain and explain exactly what happened. Then you will know you did everything within reason and if they choose to dump you anyway, remember what techman said.

Flaked generally means that you did not show up. Who knows what MF thinks. Write to the scheduler and explain. If they dump you it is their problem. Move on. They will probably keep contacting you. Let us know.

Can I just say that I had Market Force flake on ME not once, but TWICE recently? =P You can just tell them they can make it up to _me_ by letting _you_ make it up to them. (;

I cancelled one with them today, and I'm hoping somone else can pick it up for tomorrow. After working almost 11 hours today, my feet were screaming at me. It wasn't worth the $10.

Don't feel bad. I applied for 4 shops with Shoppers Critique on Aug. 1. Well they didn't give them to me until about the 8th. I could have had them done when I first applied but anywho. I completed the first one on Friday, input it and get an email asking me to clarufy the report. No problem except the questions they want me to clarify weren't on the report. So I sent a little note asking why don't they just put those questions in the report. So I go to sign in and they want an updated profile. No problem right....Well they want a 750-1,000 word narrative of a recent shopping experience. Not getting it from me. So I flake on those 2 shops. Not proud of it but you will not work me for $12 shops.

I was so annoyed with that also since I did 30+ shops for them and I had a 98% overall rating. Really? You want a narrative NOW????? Any way, you could bypass it and do your report, but it will show up every time you sign in until you fill out the narrative portion.

I did not know what to do for my first assignment either. I just showed up and winged it. I went way over my time cap. Just stay encouraged and try again.
