Is a cellphone necessary?

I don't have cell phone service right now and it's going fine. I have a home landline and internet access. I sometimes get calls from schedulers on my home phone, but usually I have seen the opportunity on the website already. If an editor needs me, they e-mail. I've never gotten a phone call from an editor when I had a cell phone.

I do have my old cell phone, but not the service. I use the phone stopwatch function to time shops.

Miles Mum have you made your decision? My Android costs me $25.00 per month. I get 100 Canadian minutes per month, Unlimited Texts and unlimited Canadian calls after 7:00PM and weekends. My phone cost $150.00 and $1.50 of my monthly bill goes to pay that tab. If I leave Koodo, then I have to pay off the tab. When I went with Koodo, I got a $50.00 Walmart card so the phone actually cost $100.00

I don't have data and use wifi when needed. I never go over the 100 minutes and have been able to get rid of long distance on the landline at home.

I use the voice recorder for timing and recording interactions. I have a stopwatch, but find the recorder better.

I don't answer the phone when on a shop, I turn it off since I don't have voicemail.

This works very well for me, but doesn't give me the option of learning about shops while I am out in the field.

I am with Koodo, and learned about it when on a mystery shop. Do some cell phone mystery shops and get paid to learn about the best deal.

Not yet, prince. Thanks for chiming in. I will look into Koodo. I was looking at Public Mobile, but they also have the worst reception (you get what you pay for, it seems). That's actually a great idea you've suggested regarding the cell shops. Maybe I will do that and not rush into anything. After all, I can always provide MSCs my number afterwards.
So far Koodo has great reception. They use Telus towers I believe. All over rural Alberta I get good reception. Right now in New Brunswick I am getting good reception.
I looked into Public Mobile, because they are the cheapest. But, I know that their reception is terrible, though I don't know who's towers they use. But, they were recently bought, so maybe they'll improve. But I'm definitely going to follow your advice and do cell shops to get a better idea of which I should sign up with.
freedom pop is launching free phone service shortly(yes, free) they already offer free data only service.
