I'm on board with the cell phone shop.....

Just wanted to say I'm on board with the cell phone shop that has been discussed here. It was bonused nicely and it is in that neighborhood that noone really wants to go to even though in broad daylight you are safe as long as you are not looking for trouble. It is interestingly enough five blocks away from the extended stay place I shopped recently. So I thought, why not apply? It seems like I am going to be staying here anyway and not taking off for a seasonal job for a bit so why not? Just curious, what are you folks that have signed up for this shop doing with the actual cell phone? Do you use it for your primary phone, or just for one aspect of your life, or does it just sit around? (I'm referring to the six month long shop so there's no confusion).

If I had one I would have used it to do the phone call part of those 12 bank shops the other day. I had one read my phone number off the caller ID and ask if he should call me on that number. I told him, "Don't call me, I'll call you." Several others asked for my phone number.

I was a bit jolted that he saw the number because I'm a customer of that bank and that phone number is one of the ones they have in their records.

I'm getting real sick of everyone who sees my phone number or email address thinking that knowing it gives them the right to use it without my permission. I thought about taking one of these shops just for that reason, to be able to call out on it but never answer it. But it's hard for me to commit to being somewhere six times in the next six months, and the fees weren't high enough to cover a trip to the valley just for the phone shop if it came to that.

So bored. And now with the required pictures of the building, station, employee...........along with gazillion questions about discussed phones, plans, apps., benefits, etc. For $10, really?

I'm not sure we are speaking of the same shop? Mine is over several month's duration for the chirping insect cell phone carrier.....I didn't mention an MSC so I think I can drop this info here? The pay also goes up most months and there is a bonus on mine and I understand we get to keep the phone at the end so I just could not say no.....
Yea, I'm doing that one too. The reports are fairly easy. The first month's payment had no report. This month, there is a question you have to ask the associate and make some sort of complaint. It's a bit long, but should be fairly easy to do. The phone turned out the be free and about 6 months of free cell phone service. One of the better shops. Although the coverage is a bit poor around my home. sad smiley.
The first one, I gave to my daughter. The second one to my son in law. Sure would like a third one. For me. Lol
I'm using mine as a backup phone. My main smartphone was having problems with heating up and not charging, and I got a replacement refurbished phone about the same time that I got the phone for this shop. I'm still under contract for another six months, and I would have wanted one of the more expensive smart phones that they are now excluding from the shop if it were going to be my main phone.

I wanted to get one for my sister, but the MSC said that you have to have access to the phone so you can take it in with your for the monthly shops, and she lives too far away to easily do that.
I just took my second shop to do today and I plan on getting an iPhone 4. I've just recently gotten an iPad 2 and am working on changing over to Apple products so the iPhone 4 will eventually work nicely with my plans.

I bought a $100 smartphone on the first shop and will probably try to sell it after the project ends.
I just love it when things are not clear cut! I went to do my second cellphone shop and got an iPhone 4. In the instructions they tell you that you can purchase a smartphone up to $149.99, yet when completing the form it says to put in the cost of the phone because they will reimburse for the phone or $175 whichever is lower. So which figure is right?

The other thing is that my service was prorated for three days. I'm not sure how it's $50 a month plus tax and for three days it's $22.41 which includes the tax. That three day figure seems high to me.
And after posting the above message I realized my first shop just did the $50 going from June 7 to July 7. It appears to be that if they prorate for every customer at the second shop, then everyone is going to be paying at the same time.

I keep thinking somehow, some way, I'm gonna lose some money.
I bit the bullet, took one and gave to younger brother whose real phone went dead (I have all the cell phones on my account and he wanted me to finance an upgrade which I'm not gonna do.) I told him he could use the insect phone until he can afford to buy another one. I was told that there phone does not work with other companies so it would be interesting to see if it actually does. Also, my instructions said NO GALAXY OR iPhone purchase.
I think my instructions said no iPhone 5, so I'm assuming that an iPhone 4 would be acceptable.
Mine said no iPhone 5 or Galaxy 3 or 4. That's why I took a shot at getting the iPhone 4. I did attempt to reach someone at MCP but despite Robin saying to email her, that didn't work. No response.
And, yea, my first shop was added to my "in box" today so I can pay it this week and get the report submitted in time.
Please inform us if the iphone 4 can be purchased. I still need to find out of the phone can be used by other carriers.
I think the iPhone 4 can be purchased as they only said we could not purchase the iPhone 5. And in doing some PM's back and forth with my Grandson, he informs me that the phones can be unlocked so that they can be used on other carriers. And he is "in lust" with my Galaxy III. He'd like to trade me his iPhone 4 for the Galaxy. When I asked why he said that the Galaxy had more capability and the iPhone 4 was fairly simple. Considering how I use it, simple might be best. LOL
One other thing - I've checked my payments on the MSC website and my iPhone 4 shop is "pending validation."
Checked again this morning and my bill for the iPhone 4 has been approved for payment. I am pleased because with the amount they said they would pay for the device plus the bonus, I'm only out about $100 for the phone.

My survey for the second phone shop has also already been loaded. In reviewing it, that survey says I can pay in any manner, i.e. auto bill pay, by phone, in the store or any method Cricket allows. The survey for the first shop does not have that statement. And the scenarios are definitely different for each assignment.
The 4 not the 4S? How much did they charge?

Sometimes, when a phone has heating and charging problems, the culprit is the battery, not the phone. Old batteries and batteries manufactured by third parties are often the culprits. I had one phone suddenly heat up so much in my pocket that I literally jumped.

They will reimburse $175 if your phone costs more than that. If the price of the phone is lower, they will reimburse you the full amount.

They asked for the exact amount from me. And the paid me the exact amount I paid for it too. I'm going to ask if I can do another one this weekend and see about the iPhone 4.
It's the 4 not the 4S and it cost $299 which think is high since in my mind with the 5 out, the 4 is old technology.
You should be able to get a 16gb iPhone 4 for $99 with any major carrier that sells iPhones. $299 for an iPhone 4 would only be worth it if the storage capability is 64gb. I bought a new 32gb iPhone 4 for $299 in November 2010. If you can get the 4S instead (even at a lower storage rate), it will do more and be worth more than an iPhone 4 in two years when the contract expires. iPhones do hold a nice resale value for people looking to buy them without a contract. I sold my iPhone 4 for $269 in January and got an 32gb iPhone 5 for $299 (plus taxes and activation fee). In two years an iPhone 4 16gb will likely be worth about $100 at a resale market (like ebay). An iPhone 4S will give you a better resale value when you are ready to sell it, so it's worth investing a little more for it, since you can't buy an iPhone 5 (which is awesome!).
ny - You forget that we are not on a 2 yr. contract but only have to keep the phone for the 6 mo. project period. After 6 mos. I can sell, use, give away or whatever. If I were to donate it somewhere I think it would be to a battered women's shelter. Seems like I read somewhere that they like the phones so their ladies have some way to get help if need be.
Granted I'm on contract, but my 4S was $99. Those no contract carriers have to make it up somewhere. Unless someone knows how to unlock their phone and doesn't mind the warranty being voided, they are still locked into a specific carrier.

I didn't realize the terms weren't the normal 2 year contract terms. However, $299 for any iPhone 4 is a lot of money for an outdated phone whether there's a contract or not. Women's shelters are unlikely to give out smartphones, IMO, when a prepaid regular phone is sufficient for emergencies.

I'm not concerned about the warranty and will unlock the phone after the 6 mo. project is finished - that is if I decide to use it rather than my Galaxy. If I really like the iPhone eventually I'll try to upgrade it at some point.

I'll end up having 4 smartphones in Dec. One for each hand and a spare for backup. LOL
The iPhone 4 is/was a great phone. It's just not fast enough online with its 3G and Wi-Fi capabilities compared with the 4S and iPhone 5 or an Android phone like the Galaxy SIii, and is missing some of the features like Siri and the text dictation (iPhone 5) features. Apple updates their operating system for all users, so that plus the App Store and higher resale value gives the iPhone an advantage over Android but there are Android advantages too. I like both but still prefer the iPhone. I hope you like your iPhone! smiling smiley
