A question about self assignments

Hi everyone!
I self assigned for a apartment shop, picked the date and had to restart my computer to print the paperwork. When I signed back in the shop wasn't in my
accepted shops. Is this something that happens often? I did schedule it for the last possible day. Was it given to someone who possibly could shop it sooner?
Thanks in advance for all your help and wisdom

It's possible that your self-assignment didn't get carved in stone, before you restarted your computer. As far as I know, self assignments are first come first serve.
Was it the kind of self-assignment where it is first-come, first-served, but you still had to reply to an email to confirm? I've had to do that with a few Kern Scheduling self-assignment shops. It is self-assign, but it isn't yours until you do both steps.
I think that is an issue of dealing with a scheduler. I just go directly to the website of the company (not the scheduler) and self assign the job and it is done.
Hi Flash It was the actual company that I self assigned for the shop.
Maybe someone else was excepting it a few moments before I did?
Oh well you win some and lose some. Thanks to evertone for the replies.
If it is a self assign and I go in and claim it, it shows on my 'to-do' list or shop log or whatever. Of course I don't delay long between seeing the shop and accepting it or moving on. But I have never dealt with a 'self assign' shop as a two step process where I needed to claim it in two different places.
I've self-assigned at an MSP's site and then received an email from them that requires me to click on a linked response confirming my acceptance. There's a 24 hour window for the shopper to reply to email before the shop is removed.
I don't think I've seen that on a self-assigned, only on requested shops so that everybody involves knows that you are aware you got the job and are planning on performing it.
I have seen it on self-assigned. Intellishop, some Kern shops, service check, and a few I cannot think of off the top of my head do that. It might be that some schedulers set that up, and some do not, so it could vary by area of the country.

Intellishop was my most recent; I know I've also had to do it before with other MSPs, but can't come up with their names.
