I'm confused about what difference it would make if a shopper told the mystery shopping companies s/he was dyslexic. Are you saying that you believe the shopper would then not be held to the same standard when shops were edited?
We are not employees so we would not legally be entitled to receive ADA benefits. However, you might find a few companies to be sympathetic and give you a bit more time on a case by case basis. The best thing to do is to go with the companies that just happen to give more time than others to everyone.

I am dyslectic, and no, I do not tell anyone that does not need to know. I make sure I do my very detailed work first thing in the morning when I am fresh. I save the grunt, no thinking stuff for the afternoons. Yes, it may take me twice as long as I would like to type reports. I proofread things, five and six times. Sometimes, I still make goofy mistakes. I print reports before I send them. I proofread them again. Spell check is my best friend! I have more problems with number strings than spelling and grammar, but, if I'm tired, all bets are off. If you learn your own body rhythm, you will be able to do more when you are in the up swing of your circadian rhythm. If you are tired, your brain is going to fight you all the way.
From a realistic point of view, you may want to make sure anyone that may want to employ you does not know about this problem. It's a cruel world, and you may be viewed as a liability. If you learn to cope, you will do ok.
Why would you mention to anyone that one is dyslexic? I mean, would you offer that you have any other ailments? What's the point? With spell check on every program, in my opinion there is no excuse.

Don't mean to sound harsh, but I don't understand the original question. I make tons of mistakes grammatically and otherwise that spell check and other programs help me with. I take the time to go over them and change appropriately.....
Chix, In an employee/employer relationship, if the dyslexia is going to be an issue in the job, it is the choice of the employee whether to disclose it. It could be considered a condition in that the employer would need to provide reasonable accommodations according to the ADA laws. Accommodations might include a little longer deadline or better spell/grammar check tools, etc.

However, this ADA laws have nothing to do with mystery shopping outside of what a typical customer would request (mostly retail shops in that the store would need wheelchair accessibility, etc.). Help with entering reports or providing extra time would be the choice of how the MSC wishes to do so. Some MSC's are more lenient with the deadlines anyway (the ones that cater to long route shoppers and such); therefore, would be best to stick with if you want more time. Otherwise, it would be up to the independent contractor to provide tools to get the report done in the time allowed. Suggestions of tools to deal with dyslexia would be to copy/paste all text and narratives to Word and spell check, using free wifi and mifi/hotspots to start on reports right away one at a time, and reducing the number of shops done in a day to allow more time to do the reports in between visits.

I see what you did there
I've considered telling the MSCs about my narcolepsy to explain why a lot of my reports are late. I hate waking up and finding lost data AND it's past midnight!
Unfortunately with out ADA protections, I think you may be less likely to get some jobs if you disclose you have dyslexia. I would recommend either using the software that provides word prediction or speech to text recognition to improve the of time it takes you to complete reports.
Sorry, but I still don't get the 'argument' because I have a few 'ailments' that would cause my reports to be insufficient, but with 'modern technology' I take the time to make sure they are correct. All programs have word check and spelling these days.....
To type a whole paragraph and see 50 red squiggles is disheartening. It is really hard to explain how the brain jumbles things up sometimes. Typing makes things somewhat easier. When I write in longhand, I have to think about which way letters go. I can read backwards, also write backwards, so the letters s, c, e, d , b, p & q make sense to me either way. Numbers are a huge problem, they look right either way. If I have a large serial number with both letters and numbers, I have to break it down into 3 symbols at a time. If I'm tired, I can't to it correctly. So it's check, check, proofread, check again.
Wouldn't you know, here I have this ability, and they no longer set type by hand for printing! I would have been a natural.smiling smiley
I learned some interesting things about dyslexia from a friend of mine not long ago. I always thought it was just reading but he explained to me that it's actually a directional problem, not limited to just reading. For instance he has problems navigating, especially in places he's not familiar. We had a pretty lengthy discussion about it, I wish I could remember all of the examples he gave me of how it affects him.

I have the biggest screen GPS I can fit on my dash. I have to see things in pictures. Give me a planogram in pictures, I memorize it in minutes. A planogram that is only UPC's or names, takes me forever to do. For the first one, after that I will remember and will probably take pictures of the completed set. If you tell me to do something, I see it as a series of pictures. I can't do Algebra, I can't make it work into pictures. It has to represent something real to me to be able to work. Can your friend see the hidden picture? You know, the kind with the dots and it's a face or a picture of something? I can't ever see it. Sometimes I think people are just messing with me about what they see. I will never know.
