Do you reply to scheduling requests if you are not planning on taking the assignment?

We all get these emails: "Hi [shopper], We have an assignment in your area! So on and so forth, let me know if you are interested or sign up on the job board." My question is, if you'd like to do the shop but the pay is too low, do you let the scheduler know or do you just wait and see if they offer a bonus? I got a request on Monday for a shop with a $10 bonus. I replied to the scheduler and basically said if he doesn't get it filled at that bonus price, I would do it for $15. He assigned it to me immediately. Do any of the rest of you make counter-offers?

Most of the time I don't if it is a mass email. If schedulers got replies every time they sent out a Sassie emailing they'd have to sort thropugh hundreds of emails.

If a scheduler takes the time to send something to me (not "dear shopper..."winking smiley I try to respond either way. In rural areas there are few shoppers around and if it's something I can't do at any price because it's somewhere I can't take my kids to, I let them know. I had been shopping for several years before I had kids, and they might have something in their files from prior pre-kid shops.
If my name is on it and I have time, I'll answer. They were thoughtful enough to write, they deserve a response. If they are using software to mass mail with names attached, I owe it to the system do my part to clog up their in box.

I often make counter offers. Successful about 50% of the time or at least they come back and negotiate a higher fee.
Mass e-mail, no I do not reply unless I am thinking of doing the job.

E-mail starting with Dear or Hi ( then my name ) I reply either way if I can do it or not with my price.

Nope. Unless it says "reply either way" I don't. I actually have never seen that but I know several don't want a reply if you don't want to do the shop.
Judging by how often schedulers reply to my emails, I'm assuming they have tons of emails and don't want to be bogged down with information that is not helpful.

I only reply if it's specific to me; usually, though, they read like they've been auto-generated so I don't worry about it unless I'm offering to pick it up (thanks to this forum, I've learned to counter-offer for a higher fee; a few times, I've been taken up on it).

Except if it's a MSC and/or scheduler I like, and I would like consideration for future job offerings; I prefer not to be viewed as a complete ass. smiling smiley

I respond if it is more of a personal email and not a blast.

I always respond if is is something like this:"Hi (my name). I am from (MSC) and was referred to you by (another MSC) and needed some shoppers in your area for (xxxx) and was wondering if you would be able to help with (blablabla)."

I have been able to pick up some of the best shops by receiving and replying to those types of emails.

I will send an email to a scheduler that is used to working with me. (not a reply unless you can) Sometimes I will ask for a bonus if they do't get it filled.) If it's the beginning of the month you might not get it. They end of the month you probably will.
