Cancellation impacting my shopper rating..

I had to cancel two shops scheduled for today because of my lack of public transportation caused by severe weather conditions. One scheduler asked me to reschedule because the cancellation will impact my shopper rating. The weather situation is forecast into next week. What will happen with this provider because my shopper rating is impacted?

Techman, you sound like the scheduler. I use door to door transport services and it requires a week to schedule. Another lake front storm is predicted for Sunday. The forecast is for bitter lake front cold weather Monday and Tuesday.

Who needs to work for a company that has total disregard for your safety and well-being?

In order for anyone to guess at what would happen with the provider because your shopper rating is impacted, you would have to identify the provider. All MSCs do not do things the same way. Did you ASK the scheduler what that meant? Without knowing the MSC or the details of the situation, I don't think anyone can answer your question.

Techman, I don't know where you live, but events like Sandy (New York), Nemo (Massachusetts), Snowpocalypse (Maryland/DC) and more limited public transportation for well over a week in the past. It's not uncommon. I know there is a lot of snow on the East Coast right now, but I haven't looked into next week's forecast yet. And other countries are likely undergoing severe weather conditions.

OP, I agree that you should ask the scheduler for more details and if you can, explain that next wee simply is not possible.
I never had a scheduler not consider my safety first. Re-schedule and email the scheduler and ask her/him to give you a four or five day window. Keep in touch with them daily. I live near the coast and in bad weather like this snow storm I have had to re-schedule two shops. One I did the day before the storm and the other I had to go two weeks out. Good Luck!
If the weather is so severe you cannot get out to the shop, just who does the scheduler think will do it?

There are crazy people who go out in the middle of storms to shoot them. Or so I've heard. ;-)

I'm not going to be going anywhere next week with temps expected to be -40 and -25 with wind chill. Not worth it. There should be an opening in the weather at some point to be able to do the shops hopefully. I wouldn't consider them if they can't consider you and safety.
-40 with windchill is warm. smiling smiley We are supposed to get -60. Can't even comprehend how cold that is.
I had to cancel all my shops today due to weather! I am hoping I can get two done tomorrow without cancelling them. When I say cancel I mean reschedule with them ok. But, the weather came up this morning with a wicked blowing of snow. Crews cannot keep up, people are in the ditches everywhere. People are being told not to go out unless it is an emergency and take a kit with you if you MUST. Now they say most of the nation will be below freezing tomorrow. But, we are to get to - something on Monday breaking all records. That is w/out the windchill. Sunday night it is to get to -45 overnight. Monday, monday night, tuesday, tuesday night and wednesday are all bad days to follow. At any rate, I am not going out when it is that cold. It is just not safe.

There is something amazingly peaceful being in the eye of a hurricane.

I have to admit, I would love to be able to go along on a hurricane hunter flight to shoot pictures.

We have a bit of a break in the weather here, but another storm is supposed to move in on Monday. I have a shop scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, but if the storm gets here, I'm going to cancel.

They don't know how to deal with the roads around here in bad weather! What in the snow belt of western NY would be just an inconvenience is a disaster where I live now. The plows don't come out until ALL the snow ends, and the roads get iced up from cars packing down the snow on the roads that should have been plowed. Four inches of snow here causes the kind of havoc that 12 causes in NY....

I tell folks down here that the township supervisors all need to go to Buffalo for a seminar on how to deal with roads in snowy, icy weather!

bus strike.

i've had to stay home waaay back when I didn't drive

impact: paycheck.

Here in denver, a few yrs back, the weather was so bad for about 2 wks. . Cops were literallly taking people off buses and in stranded cars out. The frwys and byways were so frozen cars, UPS trucks,etc.. just stopped and stayed where they were on off ramps, freeways, side streets, etc.. the state stopped. Nothing was open, the grocery stores had nothing on the shelves b/c no deliveries could arrive.

Glad I can at home smiling smiley
I am so bummed out. My hubby went to the grocery, pet and drug stores only to find that the state routes were the worse roads! Of course, that is what is needed to come and go from home. Anyway, he said no go for tomorrow at this rate. I was so looking forward to going out for a shop tomorrow for a breakfast. I was so needing that shop for a good start to my week. But, it will be rescheduled at this point. I am praying we wake up and we are able to go! Until then....

I wish I had cancelled but in my determination to complete the shop I experienced a very hazardous trip to the location. That was the start of the ice storm. It was a theatre open check and I could not finish it. I fell on the icy sidewalk and did not feel well. I also could not stay in the theatre when I was not sure if the outage in my area has been resolved or if I could go home by public transportation. As soon as as a friend offered to pick me up, I decided to take up the offer and so missed some of the showtimes. The black out was still on when we went home. I made the report as soon as there was power, explaining the situation. No word from the MSC but the assignment was no longer on my list of shops.
Yikes, I am so sorry. Your health and safety is a lot more important than the theatre check.
Thanks all. One scheduler cancelled the shop since I could not reschedule until January 21. Have not heard from the second scheduler seems his travel is impacted by the weather too. What a time to be a Mystery Shopper/Scheduler eh? Let's hope the impact for us is positive (lots of bonused shops this month). Stay safe everyone.
Incognito, does the state just completely shut down with those temps? I think about the homeless, and that stray pet. Will be warm on Tuesday with the temp at 11 degrees! Of all days I am having cataract surgery! I'm already a nervous wreck!

I can. We've had -80 when my kids were in grammar school. They are saying that we'll have a record low tomorrow. After a certain point what does it matter?

Several states are totally shut down. ZERO travel allowed. ZERO.
Many places have shut down non-essential services.. Police, fire, highway departments, homeless shelters, etc, are still up and running. Are you suggesting there are states who have shut down those services as well?

I think when people are saying "everything is shut down," they are referring to the non-essential services. Essential services, by definition, are kept running regardless of conditions.

This is an update on the shop which I did during the ice storm-power outage in Toronto. Guess what? Just checked the scheduled coming payments and I was paid for what I did, minus the bonus, of course. Kudos to the Purple. I was not expecting that they would consider the bad weather. My respect for them has significantly risen.
No "good" Mystery Shopping Company is going to "ignore" your safety, during a severe "Arctic Winter Blast."

If they DO, you don't need to be working for them smiling smiley

What exactly does this mean," Door to door transport services."?

Basically, you always have to schedule jobs a week out because you can't / don't drive?

That's going to make shopping really difficult in general.
My respect for all you mystery shoppers in the cold has grown enormously. Then I read that you take a bus!! Hats off to you. Have to admit I am feeling very grateful for Cali this morning.
SoCalMama, Yes it is true; I am picked up by Para-Transit when I need to travel anywhere using public transportation. That service requires that rides are reserved a week in advance of the trip.

Actually, I was able to reschedule both of the shops I had to cancel two weeks ago and did them today. Both schedulers were willing to work with me. I learned there is a big difference asking to cancel a shop and asking to reschedule a shop. One of the shops even had a bonus since the shop had not been done yet this month. It all worked out and there was no impact on my shopper rating.
