Ratings from Editors

You know I usually get 9 or 10's all the time from all the companies I deal with except one. I am not bragging, but, this one company, no matter what I do always has something to tell me that what I do that is wrong! I get so frustrated. Example: be less memorable. What was memorable? (OK, I made that up.) But, those are the type of replies I get. So, I check out my rating and it is a 10/10. OK, I am happy it is a 10. But, I did not get any detail on ways I could have improved. So, this shows up on the screen with completed shops, ratings, and comments. I guess I am a perfectionist. But, if you need to give me a way to improve myself, give me a little more meat, or am I nit picky? Maybe I need two more Tylenol and to go to bed, lol.

I don't think grades mean much and I am just happy to be paid. My one and only "6" grade came when I decided enough was enough and refused to waste anymore time answering an editor's multiple and duplicitous e-mails for a $12 fee. At that point, I finally truly didn't care anymore. I still got paid!

When I first started I was very concerned about grading, to the point that I read and read and re read my reports until I thought they were perfect. And I usually got positive feedback and a 10. Over time, I felt like I got better at writing the reports and I chilled out a little. Now I can do a quick edit and submit with few edits, and still receive 10s.

I received an 8 on a difficult MSC report and my blood didn't boil, I just thought - good, report accepted and I get paid. Their commentary was I could have added all of this complex data I received on the different plans that were offered, etc. etc. etc. Well I included the basics about the top 3 plans they asked about, and I wasn't going to spend an hour including all of the additional details for the dozen other plans that were mentioned.

I have heard it here often - do the very best job you can and don't sweat the grades. Read the comments objectively and don't take it personally.

Go onto your job site and you may find this: "We rarely give 10's, as this is considered exceptional but giving out 10's freely is not what we do."

My wording above is similar to what I read on a few of the job sites. If you get time, sit down and read it.

You may be surprised that giving 10's is like giving out bars of gold for some companies..not going to happen smiling smiley
Who cares?

You will get paid with a 6, an 8 or a 10. Just do a good job.

Editors' scores are like tramp hunting at a bar. Target a 10, but settle for anything above 5. (
At closing time, even 5 may not be the lower limit.)
Glad these things are not to be taken too seriously. One of the reports I submitted last week was graded at a 9 and she wrote in the comments "would have been a 10 had you not spelled the associate name Janette instead of Janetta. Names are very important" I totally agree names are important but I spelled it right multiple time in the report and gave a very detailed physical description. So it irked me a bit, but now that I know 10 is hard to get I will just take the comments constructively.

Floating around like a feather hoping the wind will set me down somewhere awesome.
