Recommendation on split timing device

I am starting to do shops that require a split timing. I have a digital watch but that doesn't have that function and I don't have a fancy cell phone either. I looked at a split timer at a big box store but it was big and bulky. Does anyone have any suggestions on either a technique for these split times or the type of timer they use? I am not good at remembering the exact times so my digital watch. Also, I have considered a recorder for shops where they want to know EXACTLY the words the employee said. Does anyone use a recording device of some source that they would or would not recommend? Thanks for your info in advance.

You can probably purchase a watch with a split timing capability, but I'm not sure how subtle that is.
I'd say that probably the simplest method would be a cell phone with a stopwatch/split feature. It doesn't have to be a fancy "smart phone, " many basic flip phones with alarm capability have this feature.

A stopwatch that you could hide in your pocket and easily hit might work, too. You would have to have a sure hand and not accidentally hit "reset," though.

Here is a $16 model from Amazon: [www.amazon.com]
I'd like to add about the cell phone thing. The cell phone wouldn't even need to be activated on a plan to use as a timer. It be a old one from someone else or a cheapie model from freecycle or ebay.

I use the app Hybrid Smartwatch on my Android phone. It does multiple split times. I then send the timings to Evernote so I don't lose it. I once accidently hit the reset button before I was able to record the times and had to redo the shop. You can also send the timings to email.

I also record on my cellphone when necessary. I have several apps for that but like the Smart Voice app the best.
I got a stopwatch from Target. Then my card number got stolen.

Sometimes I just use a digital recorder in my pocket, and do the timing from the comfort of my home.

I use my voice recorder to get the timings.

I picked up a digital watch with split timer function at Target for $20. Since it is still very cold here I hide it in my jacket pocket during my shops to get times. I always assumed it would look weird if I used my cellphone (plus during those shops I seem to be the only person in line, so everything I do stands out).
I use a sports timer that I got for ten bucks. It is used for swimmers but you can easily get split times and it is small enough to hide in your hand.
