The number of Gold certified shoppers

I've seen posts that said that there were about 6,000 Gold certified shoppers out of about 1,000,000 shoppers. Now, I just read the MSPA website that claims that. Reading between the lines, I believe that those numbers were correct at the time that they changed from the in-person workshops to the video/online Gold certification. How long ago was that?

And, do we have any idea what it is now? 60,000? 120,000? Whatever it is, it's certainly not 6,000 now. The whole point of changing to video/online, they said, was to give more people an opportunity to get it.

That's a good question. I tried to look up a more current number myself, but can only find that quote as the specific "official" number of Gold shoppers to non-Gold shoppers.

Right--'official number'. But, the context where I found it makes it clear that this number was the reason they added the online/video credentialing. So, it could well have grown exponentially, since they wrote that. And, they certainly wouldn't have any incentive to update it!
I'm sure it's grown some, but there is still a (IMO) substantial cost involved in doing the Gold certification that I don't believe a lot of people are willing to pay, especially at the miniscule rates that many MSC's are paying these days.

Silver Certified on the Carolina Coast. You want fries with that?
You also have to account for attrition of gold shoppers that voluntarily take themselves out of the game. Just because they are in the the database does not mean they are accepting shops.
