Costco Rep talked about Mystery Shoppers!

I was not performing a shop but about an hour ago I had a Costco window rep over to measure our windows. She started talking to me about the vendors Costco signs contracts with and how some have been "stealing" clients and doing a no-no - not her company but water heater ones in particular.
She mentioned that Costco hires Mystery Shoppers from within to perform shops on all the vendors to make sure they are adhering to the rules!

Stupid me, but right then I said "OHH IM A MYSTERY SHOPPER!" Her eyes got HUGE and I then realized she probably thought I was shopping her. Haha. Obviously my name on this forum says it all. Sometimes I can't remain secret lol. I told her not to worry that I wasn't working. Lol

I want to shop Costco!
Do any of you know if that is true if Costco hired within for their shoppers or do they go through an MSC?

There are regular shops for Costco, but the ones I've seen only pay $12 and require you to evaluate 3 or 4 demo vendors within the store in one visit.

Seriously, nobody cares that you're offended.
There are also some for Costco that are evaluating the vendor that provides the wireless sales.

Shopping across Indiana but mostly around Indianapolis.

I've seen those for cell phones and LG at Sams Club but haven't seen .........actually I lied!! I remember seeing something for a Costco down the street from me but it was for LG. Never mind. All this heat is making me forget stuff!! Lol

I have the ones for Costco demos & phones. Would love it if it were Sam's, they are just up my street!
I've done the cell phone kiosk ones in Costco, also the one for their floral stand. I like the flower one, the phone one NO. Except for the one where you just 'observe' the action going on at the cell phone kiosk. It's difficult to just linger in the area for fifteen whole minutes without looking like a weirdo, though. smiling smiley I would give the ones where you evaluate the sample people, though, if I could find it! smiling smiley

I always try to do a vendor shop when I go to Costco about once a month. The fact that they are so easy, the report is a snap, and that I am going anyway, makes up for the low fees. AND, those shops more than pay for my annual membership, with plenty left over to buy bargain paper and SD cards for my business.

Based in MD, near DC

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
I've done the wireless retailer one and it's easy. My first one was observation only. I don't think I've ever looked so long at socks and books, but I pulled it off. It helps to have someone with you. The second was an interaction. That was easy and I learned a bit about smart phones, which I want to buy soon. Easy shops to do. smiling smiley

Costco has the food demo shops, cell shops and outside "touring vendor" shops, all done by different msc.
I've seen people in Costco who looked like they were mystery shopping the store...singles several times and also twice a couple. They had long lists they were consulting and picking things off shelves and reading labels carefully. Several times the male came over to the female and consulted. It did not look like a regular real shopper just buying for a crowd, especially since there was nothing in their basket. And they were not doing anything revealed as they were definitely trying to "hide" what they were doing. I almost approached them the last time (different people each time) but decided not to scare them by asking if they were mystery shopping and I certainly did not want to reveal that I am a mystery shopper and therefore the recognition. They could have been insiders employed by the company directly. I guess I will never know.
I've done the cell phone personal interactions and observations, the demo evals and a printer/notebook outside sales rep eval at Costco. I wish there was a customer service eval for the Customer Service desk. I had a crappy experience when I joined in February.

I wish Costco had later hours, too. Who closes at 6 pm on a Saturday?
