Geo verify bah humbug
I would have done the shops anyway, I have never had geo verify and wouldn't let them track me even if I wanted to bother. My shops are all accepted without it.

Welcome to the Geoverify world. It NEVER EVER has worked properly for me. Some people will chime in and tell you how to fake the location but the effort is not worth it.
Cettie there is one company that specially states absolutely none accepted without it.

I think the thing that irked me the most was that geo verify was not part of the shop itself. What I mean is that it's only purpose was to prove that I was where I said I was. The audit itself, getting the manager's permission, name, title, gathering the necessary information including required time and date stamped photos could have been done.
I can't imagine why they'd demand Geoverify on a revealed audit. They could prove you were there in a few dozen other ways, depending on the audit, of course.
We've had this discussion before and members are on all sides of the fence. I am from the generation that does not like "big brother" tracking us in the interest of "easing" our experience. I won't be tracked and if it means more assignments for those who are willing, so be it. I almost forgot to say, "Hell no, I won't show!"

GeoVerify is simply not accurate enough to rely upon. When you're where you're supposed to be and it puts you somewhere else, what good is it? I don't even try to use it anymore. I have location services activated on my phone. That's enough!
I tried it once and it didn't work. I won't use it again.

I don't see what the big deal is. I would MUCH rather allow them to "track" me while I Geoverify than buy something useless and reduce my bottom line just to prove I was at the correct location. You think you are being more "tracked" by producing a time/date stamped code than by providing a time/date stamped receipt with the address on it or time/date stamped photos with a geo tag?
And as an aside, I have never had an issue with the app itself. Has not been buggy for me whatsoever.

I installed the app a few months ago just to "see" and it was correct.
It said I was home.
I've never been ask to use it so far.
My receipts and signatures, etc. are enough proof to show I was there, right?

I do not lack anyone tracking where I am. They ask for a receipt or business card; that should be enough.

In a suburban area that's less congested than a big city, GeoVerify is probably good enough. I agree -- how much proof can someone need when you've got business cards, receipts or time stamped photos or all of the above PLUS every business, even offices, has video cameras these days? You are constantly being warned that you will be video-verified!
They should accept a photo of the address or street signs.
Well fair is fair so I found out today through trial and error that the fault was with my phone carrier and not geo verify. My phone carrier (tracfone) had mistakenly blocked data on my phone. Apparently geoverify uses the gps on your phone to fix your location but uses the data connection (either wireless or mobile data) to actually assign a geotag. What was happening in my case was that geo verify was finding my location which it said on the screen but since I had no data connection it couldn't send my geotag.
I am a very low usage smartphone user and based on that Tracfone seemed to be my cheapest option but this has got me pretty torqued and I will be looking for another low cost phone provider.

I switched to Tracfone, too. In some rural areas you are looking to spend a hundred bucks a month for a smartphone. There are some $50/ month prepaid smartphone plans out there but they don't get service in my area. Even Tracfone can't offer mobile data where I live. For under ten bucks a month I have a basic Tracfone that I can call and text with anywhere in the States.
No Geo Verify here. It would cost me a hundred bucks for the privilege of being tracked like a radio tag on a moose. Am I missing out on a hundred bucks' worth of shops because if this? Not likely.

I have switched phone carriers to a company called ringplus. They are what is known as a MVNO and resell Sprint services. I bought a used Samsung Galaxy s3 on ebay to use with them and got a plan from ringplus that has 400 min, 400txt and 400mb of 4g data fro $9.99 a month which more than meets my needs.
I was a loyal Tracfone user for many years but the incident I recounted before plus all my minutes disappearing twice over one week period and literally spending hours trying to hash that out has completely soured me of Tracfone.

I'll look into that. Sprint does not offer service here, even as post-pay, so I am not too optimistic. The only major carrier in our area is US Cellular and the other carriers seem to avoid roaming with their towers.
I do not use Geo Verify. I also have a tracfone and will not have the expense of a smartphone. I have never had a MSC refuse me. There are so many ways to know where you are with receipts, business cards, ATMs I just ask for a balance, no charge.
The company that had this shop (audit) was pretty adamant that you use geoverify and in fact made you acknowledge that you has a phone capable of using it and would use it a couple of different spots in the shop application. So by accepting the shop you have agreed to use geoverify.
BTW Tracfone does have smartphones now, they have three or four different models all around the $100 range all with triple minutes for life

Tracfone has smartohones, but the service is not offered everywhere. There is a ten-mile radius around our town in Southwest Iowa that seem to be blacked out for many carriers. My old AT&T phone, that I now keep on hand for trips to Canada, will get a few bars as soon as I get a few miles out of town in any direction. Conspiracy.
Whatever company mandates geo verify will be out of business if they enforce that rule. Now maybe if geo verify works out the bug and works perfect in 5 years fine. My bet is geo-verify is no longer an app in 5 years.

Well apparently this type of app is getting commonplace in other areas. My wife who works for a large retail chain says many of the mfg reps and vendors who visit her store have to use them to verify their visit, and then you have UPS, Fedex and most of the major trucking companies who use tracking devices in their trucks so they constantly know where their trucks are.
When I worked for Mosaic and visited various stores I really believed the handheld device they furnished me "called home" though I was never told yes or on.

A UPS driver is driving a company-owned truck, as is the FedEx driver, and many semi drivers on the road. The owners of the trucks, by GPS tagging them, can track their own property while it is driven by an employee. GPS tags are useful for dispatchers and schedulers, too. Mosaic's handheld device might be GPS tagged, too, but it is their equipment.
We are independent contractors, not employees. The contract says to be at X place at Y time to do Z task. Where was I before that? Nunya Beeswax. Afterwards? Nunya Beeswax. I was there at X time at Y place to do Z task, and have receipts, a report, and possibly photos or a signed declaration from staff, to prove it. No need to tag me like a moose using my own personal equipment.

Just to clarify, geoverify is only used only when you are at the designated location and you trigger the geotag by activating the app.
Having said that I fully understand your position but in this assignment there was no purchase required, there were photos required were but truthfully they were so generic you could have the same photos for multiple stores plus although you had to speak to a manager no name was required.
Now could they have proved the same thing without using geoverify? Sure, they could have told you to make a purchase or told you to get the managers full name and have a place in the report to enter that info but for whatever the reason they chose to use geoverify instead. I have no idea why.

Look into Virgin Mobile - they run on the Sprint network as they were bought by Sprint (Mr. Branson is no longer involved).
I have had it for the past 2 1/2 years and am quite happy with the service. We live 65 mi outside a major metropolitan area and the service is fine here but it is pretty rural just beyond us. There is still service there, including 3g but it can be spotty.
The have really inexpensive yet decent phones (like $20-35 )and two types of service - PayLo which is non-smart phone type and you can get a decent amount for $20 a month, for $30 you get 1500 minutes and text and a small amount of data (many of the models have a small screen and can access the internet).
Then there is the smart phone plan with a wide choice of phones - I do the unlimited Talk/Text/Data for $55
Most providers I notice offer either more minutes or more data in their packages but not both - that is always extra. So compared to everyone I know who is on Sprint, ATT, Verizon etc this is a good deal.
