Bestmark NEW car sales shop? Any suggestions?
How are they asking you to dress? Rarely do people shop for cars in full business attire.

I wasn't aware there was a dress code to buy a 50k car. They're mid-range.
I had a Porsche shop last year... another customer was actually purchasing while I was there, and he was wearing Crocs, so...anything goes.

Bestmark actually has a dress code of business casual. For a higher end car than their norm, I had to get my car approved and addressed the requirement while we were on the phone. Their attitude was I know my area much better than them and should use my own judgement. And one of the most horribly dressed customers I ever saw was on a Porsche shop. Crocs could only have been an improvement. I also visited a local dealer during the playoffs last October. He was wearing a Cardinal's t-shirt which I explained in my report. Rather than being out of place, it is a standard in most businesses that time of year, even banks.

A 30k-50k car is mid-range. It is not high end, so don't stress about dressing the part. Business casual would be appropriate. What do you wear to work?

I do the mid-range and even high end car shops wearing a plain pair of black slacks and a decent blouse. My reason for looking at cars in this range is that "I've always wanted an XYZ and now I've finally sold that house"

I've done lots of car shops, and have a cousin in the business. My experience (and his) is that people looking at Chevys dress better than a lot of people looking at Porsches. I wouldn't sweat the dress code at all.
And I always laugh when the shop instructions say dress up when they're paying you a whopping $17 or $20.
As for the report, I think the BestMark ones are probably among the easiest of the car shops, and also pay the least. Good training ground, perhaps, but after a few I'd move on up the food chain.

I think the Best Mark car reports are ridiculously long for what the shops pay!! WAY too much narrative and repetitive narrative--unless they have changed their reports in the past few months.
I agree about dress, they just don't want you showing up in a tank top and flip flops.
Some family friends both needed new cars. They are BMW/Mercedes people. They went to the first dealership in their normal weekend wear of old jeans and sweatshirts. The dealership wouldn't give them the time of day. Left that one, went to another, but their two $80,000 cars...drove them back to the first dealer and had some choice words for the sales manager at the first dealership. Given he is a prominent businessman in the area, that story spread pretty rapidly through the business world

My cover story is that I recently moved to this state after a divorce. (I have an out of state drivers license) I don't own expensive clothes; however, the business casual here is a pair of slacks and a blouse works great

I have done a number of the car shops. I don't worry much about a dress code. I just wear a clean pair of slacks and a modest blouse. I am new to shops and get excited whenever a check comes in the mail!

It's business casual so for girls do what Mate70 said. Guys slacks and a polo.
I just accepted a Bare International, Hi end auto, shop for $175, yes the dress code was funny cause the country club set here is def casual, flip-flops and jeans or low-end prepster. Should be interesting cause they come to the house to measure for a charger too and they wanted pix of my garage and front of home. Hope there is not too much repetitive dialogue, but the price was right! The original offer was between $150- $200 for a unique opportunity to drive a new hi end electric SUV.

I used to routinely do New car shops for Bestmark. I stopped for one simple reason. I am still getting calls and emails from those dealerships on shops I did 3 years ago. Because you have to give your real email and phone so that the employee can make the required follow-up call, you are then on their radar.
I don't do them for the same reason. What a PITA to be called and emailed in perpetuity for doing a shop.

What I found odd is that's not the MSC doing the shops he mentioned. They also don't pay $175 unless he snagged a phenomenal bonus.

No idea what the post initially said since the poster removed it. I've shopped Mercedes and now Audi though I'm early 30s, and do not drive a high end car. I managed to sell myself better at Mercedes then Audi, but I'm wondering if it means I should target male sales staff in future for myself.
Hilariously another MSC turned down my applications for mid range shops, though in the application I had put that I had successfully shopped an 87 thousand dollar car on a two visit shop.
I can do business casual or lulu and make it work. Though I agree with the other posters, it seems people shopping for mid range vehicles appear to dress nicer then those shopping high end.

When I get those follow-up calls, I just tell them I bought a competitor's car. End of problem. I also have a "junk" e-mail address I use for shops that require I give one for possible follow-up. I would never give the e-mail addresses I actually use to any of the places I shop. I only check the junk address when I am watching for the follow-up. I clean it out when I am expecting something.
I live and work in Wyoming/Montana. I was once reprimanded when a camera caught me "shopping" in Carhardts, North Face down jacket, Sorrels and wool ski cap. My response was that, at -12 in my world, it was business casual.
