Thursday is Mexican Army Day! I'll Have to Call 'em Up and See If They Want To Do $5 USD Spanish Phone Shops, Unless You Want So

I know so many people find these annoying but I just wanted to see how many other people found this subject line pretty funny. Not necessarily tempting because, let's face it, poor Joel F. does have his work cut out for him. I do give kudos for the originality, especially considering the shops. It takes a certain kind of person to continually approach this with a sense of humor. I've always found Joel to be a great scheduler to work with and he's had many subject lines that, though they haven't tempted me to take the shop, have given me a laugh.

It does seem like his creativity is being wasted trying to fill $4 and $5 phone shopssmiling smiley

I also started a post about this. I thought it was so strange. My apologies for not seeing yours first....
Dude is hilarious and it gets people talking about him and his jobs. That's a great start for him.

I do NOT see it as hilarious at all. In fact I see it as offending......

I wonder if he uses 'This Day In History' or 'Chase's Book of Days' or something similar to get ideas...

He cracks me up! I can't do the shop but I enjoy his subject lines. I'm waiting for the day when they have a shop that I can do he seems to be a really nice guy.

You're offended again. What a shock.

SO for all of you NOT offended you can have mine. If you all have never lived in another country you would NOT understand this and obviously do not understand.
Would it still be offensive if he said it was Canadian Army Day? He is just trying to be funny and trying to fill shops requiring someone to speak Spanish. His subject lines make it easy for me to see them and hit delete after chuckling. It's not like we're at war with Mexico. Last time I looked the U.S. and Mexico were allies.

He's really nice. I actually accepted one of his phone shop jobs, but I overbooked myself that day and couldn't do it. I sent him an email explaining that and he wrote back telling me it was no problem and that he would make sure I didn't get dinged for the cancellation.

Joel is really nice to work with and his subject lines crack me up. I did a lot of these shops when I first started out. If I was in a position that I could not leave the house and phone shops were my only option - I would take these in a second. I am actually really good at them smiling smiley
I would love for the next email subject line to start off with "No offense but..."

I was just thinking that I wish I was at all interested in his assignments, because his subject lines are hysterical. Great minds...

I agree - he's always fast to respond and very understanding and accommodating. I used to do a lot of these as well since they were so quick and easy and (I may get some flack for saying this but...) we have a family member my sisters and I were willing to "sacrifice" and use in the scenario. My sisters loved it when they'd call and I'd tell them that so-and-so was on his deathbed again today. Perhaps twisted but it helped pay the bills.

I don't get it. I have lived in 3 countries: USA, Belgium and Mexico. Why am I supposed to be offended?
I speak fluent Spanish, but never for less than $50 a job. I can write pretty nicely in Spanish too, better than most native speakers that I know here.
I find the emails amusing. I find myself tempted, strictly because of the creativity.

How hard are these things to do?

Can quite a few be cranked out in an hour? Well at least 5 or 6 of 'em?
Lighten up Canadamommy. He has a great imagination and is funny. But I am still not tempted to take a shop.
I can't believe I'm saying this but I can see why CANADAMOMMY would find it offensive. Where we are from, people don't really talk like that especially in a professional setting. I think at one time I read something Lisa wrote about Filipinos and thought it was odd until she explained further what she meant.

I think the Scheduler is just having fun cause no one ever does those shops.. I haven't seen them personally but it sounds like the MSC who does funeral shops. He's had some titles about Canadians that could be taken as offensive but honestly they end up in the junk folder anyway tongue sticking out smiley

I don't personally find Joel's comments offensive however it does surprise me that the company he works for allows humorous emails of that nature. I have a lot of HR training and know that it would be frowned upon in many companies.
Here's a politically incorrect joke: The only thing good to come out of Oklahoma (or pick another state) is I-35.

Here's another one: Duct Tape = Okie (or pick another state) chrome.

Lest some of you Okies get upset, know that I am half Okie and I think these are hilarious.

It probably doesn't matter since we aren't employees. Technically the MSCs are our clients.

The subject line may or may not be something to laugh at. Joel has shops he has to schedule. The shops are easy, including the report. Are they worth the $4, not really considering the time to put into finding an address close to the funeral home or cemetary, finding a local hospital and dealing with some local funeral director that is either paranoid or a talker. Is Joel creative? Yes. Is it that original? No. Is it something to be offended at? No. It doesn't matter how well you speak Spanish or what country you have lived in. Frankly, who cares! It boils down to what is your time worth to you. $4 for 20+ minutes? You decide.
He must be getting enough people to do these since the pay is still so cheap. It sounds like most of us aren't willing to. Too bad his MSC won't let him offer more money.

Joel may get people to complete the calls. The real question is, what is the rejection rate of those calls? Seems pretty high! I did these when they were $5, none since the fee dropped. I do get the emails that review the standards for the calls and it seems many of the calls are not being completed according to guidelines. That is what you get when you lower the fee and clog the job board with seeking new shoppers. At least he is dealing with the pressure with a sense of humor and not freaking out!
I have done these shops too when they were $5. They were usually only about 10 minutes and the report takes a minute maybe. Once in a while there was a lengthy interaction but if you're crafty you can cut it short. I did these daily for several months and I think that I only had 1 rejected because there was too much background noise. This particular shop actually helped me - they are tough. They are like paid training. Joel is very supportive and I was even paid for the effort in some cases if they couldn't use the shop.
