Issue for the report do I or don't I report it?

Today while doing a storage shop the person showing it to me opened it up and we were swarmed with stinging creatures. I stated they were there. In response, I was told don't worry at this time of year they are everywhere. Duh! NO dumb blonde here! I pointed out in the corner there was a nest of them. Then he said, oh yeah they are no problem. I would not rent that storage shop for nothing with the attitude and bugs. He did not want to bother with me as soon as I said I did not want it today I had to think it over. I have to be careful to not make it sound like I am editorializing but, do I or not add it? It really bugged me! No pun intended. What if I was allergic? What would you do?? I am doing this report last so I can get your input. Thanks.

Yes, I would definitely mention it. I understand that not every empty unit is going to be opened every day to check it and make sure it is in good condition, so I could understand a nest getting established. But I would expect him to do an 'oops' and say something like, "I'll have to get David out here with some spray to take care of that." So what is more important is his lack of concern.

You should mention it. You are supposed to be a normal customer. A normal customer would not rent that unit.

How do you state things like the nest without sounding like you are giving your opinion? I hate it when they say I editorialize but I do give fact. So, I need to learn how to give fact w/out sounding like it is my opinion. I have been told in two reports to clean it up from my opinion out of lots of reports. No more of these for me. I am shy on this place anymore. Thanks for all of your input. You make my life better!

When the manager opened the door to unit #___ there were flying insects inside the unit that appeared to be wasps or hornets. I mentioned this and the manager indicated there always were insects this time of year. I pointed to a nest up in the corner of the unit and the manager seemed unconcerned and made no reassuring comments that it would be taken care of.

I would simply make an objective statement in the report. State that you saw a nest of flying insects in the corner of the stall. State that you pointed it out to the employee. State the employee's response. And then leave it at that.

When the manager opened the door to unit 666, it was a deathtrap waiting to be sprung! There were stinging bugs everywhere, you know, the deadly malevolent kind that bite you till you’re dead! The manager acted like he couldn’t even see them until I pointed them out. That’s when he showed just how little he cared by saying that there are bugs everywhere this time of year. His nonchalance and blasé attitude clearly showed the low opinion he has for customers, or for all that is good, as far as that goes. His disregard for the well-being of others was confirmed when I pointed out that the swarm’s nest was in the corner of the unit, likely sheltering tens of thousands more of the deadly scourge along with their hell-bent magna mater squeezing out her demon spawn. The manager simply ignored this apocalyptic presence. Ignored it! Can you believe?!!! I am not sure what disturbed me more about the unit – standing so close to a cloud of flying death or standing so close to the evil aura of the manager’s coal-dark soul and ice-cold heart.

Or just go with what Flash said.

If the guideline tell me the client has a weak heart and is easily offended and I should only say nice things, they do not want an objective report from this "fly on the wall". I had editors tell me to omit everything negative as the editor did not want to upset the client.The client would be more upset if I gave them nice and the location folded because the customers would not go there. I do not write fiction.

An infestation of vermin at a storage unit shop? I don't understand why you have a question about whether this is significant to the shop. Sure go ahead and have fun and share it on this site. But there should be ZERO question about whether to include this fact.
