Scheduler tells you they will assign a shop, never does

Tuesday, I was communicating with a scheduler and was told that she would assign me two shops in a town about 20-25 miles away from me for Wednesday. After hearing back I took another shop in that area to make the drive worth it. I also turned down another shop that was closer to home since I already committed one set of shops.

A few hours later she still had not assigned the shops. I emailed to ask her to assign the shops. She did not respond. In fact she hasn't responded in over 24 hours. She did not ever assign the shops. She has not answered calls nor has she answered emailed.

I still drove over 40 miles to complete the one shop for $20. As a result of her not assigning me the shops she said she would, I drove 40 miles and missed out on two closer shops. I guess I could have just skipped out on the one shop but if I agree to complete a job I do so...

Is there any recourse for me? Do schedulers have managers that I can bring this up with? It seems to me that if we are expected to hold up our end and not bail on shops then schedulers should be expected to hold up their end and assign shops they say they will.

I'm surprised your story didn't end with, "...and then when I got home, I got an email saying that the two shops were assigned to me."

Personally, I think you just did all you could, except naming the name of the scheduler and the company she works for, which is legal here, I believe, and would probably give you some satisfaction. The same thing has happened to me, and I was wondering if it was the same company.
I'm wondering if it is a third party scheduling company. They are notorious for things like this. Another scenario is that while you were making the negotiations with this scheduler, another scheduler assigned the same two shops to another shopper. When your scheduler went to assign them to you, they were gone. Most schedulers would not take the time to call you back to tell you that you did not get the shops. They juat move on to the next set of shops.
Which is actually bullsh-t in my book. If you are having direct communication with someone it should include an explanation of why it was not assigned, end of story. Yes schedulers are busy, but we have lives and livelihoods too.

I had this exact same thing happen.

She gave me a shop with a good bonus. I never got the email showing I had the shop. I checked my job site. Nothing there. I called her. She never called me back. She never put the job on my board.

I took her name I had on a piece of paper and ripped it up, throwing it in the trash. I don't remember her name and don't want to remember. But I will always remember the Mystery Shopping Company that has her working for them. Shame on schedulers that do that. Have some manners and at least respond to the shopper who is waiting in limbo.

I strongly believe she gave the job to someone else, someone who she had called earlier. I believe the shopper was awarded the job, after I was given it.

As a result I no longer trust this person and now I require an email while on the phone for notification/confirmation for any company..

The other shopper probably asked for no bonus or a lower bonus amount than what you were offered.
Actually... about 5 hours later she assigned the two shops.
Wrong locations too...

I don't think it was a third party. I've done a number of these shops for them in the past as well... different scheduler though.

They clearly didn't give it to someone else, since they just assigned them to me... about 40 hours after she said she was going to schedule them.

I never asked for the bonus. She called me and said can you do XXX for $25? (shop pays normally under $10) I told her yes. She thanked me and said she would put it on there. Then nothing.... tongue sticking out smiley
Personally I don't schedule other shops around a shop or set of shops until I have it confirmed I have been assigned those shops. With that said I agree it is crap to agree and then not assign or assign after the fact. Now you want to play games fine I don't work with you in future or my price on future shops for you just went up.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
I keep them on the phone until it is assigned to me and shows the correct bonus. The scheduler needs to add it to the system and there is no time like the present.

This has happened to me recently, with what I think is a different company. Scanman, I think you have a SUPER idea, there, and I am gonna use it should the opportunity arise with these people again. I KNOW they found someone cheaper after they told me they'd assign it to me for a bonus.
This is why I ask them to send me an email right then and there confirming the bonus and shop assignment while I'm still talking to them. No email, no shop. Usually they send it right away so I can say I got it.

This week I had a job assigned to me on the website and then withdrawn a few hours later. They said it was scheduled to someone else already.
