Politics and Mystery Shopping

Yes, both are grammatically correct, but grammar is what tells you that what you think "could care less" means isn't what it actually means.

If you love your child more than anything else in the whole wide world the phrase "could care less" applies to that. Because there is a huge amount of less caring available than what you care. That is not at all what people mean when they say "could care less."

If they are both grammatically correct why did you attempt to correct our grammar? When I say "I could care less" or "I couldn't care less" I simply mean that I don't care, I don't have the slightest bit of interest, I don't give a rats ass, or you can phrase it any other way you want that has the same meaning.
The sentence "I ran fast" is grammatically correct but grammatically does not correctly convey that I walked at a leisurely pace. "I could care less" while being grammatically correct does not grammatically convey that you don't care very much. Grammatically it says that your range of caring could be as high as caring as much as you possibly could.

From The Grammarist:

"Could care less is seldom heard outside the United States, and commentators from outside North America tend to express bafflement over its existence, but it is so common in the U.S. that it is now a widely accepted idiom, meaning that it does not have to be logical."

I am equally baffled about the illogical use of the phrase, but it is what it is and it is widely accepted to mean that you don't care. Chalk this one up to us stupid Americans.
It is the most pet of my peeves. It means exactly the opposite of what people who use it want to say.

OK, perhaps you are both right. "I don't give a rat's" ass is probably more succinct.
That is a particularly spectacular phrase.

Technically you're right as they're both widely used and accepted to mean the same thing, it's just not logical at all because they should mean two very different things.

Yes, but technically, very few of us have a rat's ass to give....

I did a shop today at a gas station and there were like 257 pigeons walking around the parking lot. I suppose I could have caught one and then I would have had a flying rat's ass to give?

Yes, you absolutely missed your chance. I would love to have a couple of flying rats' asses to give away now and then. Too bad.

I did. It took me forever cause they kept moving and I'd get mixed up and have to start all over again. :/

Did you fail zoology in college? Pigeons are birds and rats are mammals.

"Although both birds and mammals are warm-blooded vertebrates, mammals are in the class Mammalia and birds are in the class Aves. Differences between the two include the following:Mammals have an outer covering of skin, fur or hair, while birds have a covering of feathers. With the exception of the two monotremes, the platypus and echidna, mammals gve birth to live young, whereas all birds lay eggs. All mammals (including the monotremes) nurture their young on mothers' milk. All modern birds, even the flightless ones, have wings, whereas the only truly flighted mammal is the bat."
I dunno what you're talking about my zoology prof always referred to pigeons as flying rats.

Sybil I did not fail zoology or anything else and I don't give a rat's ass for the educational quote. I majored in scatology at Ima Telling U. In what amazing field did you major that equipped you to attack at random and especially b? You remind me of myself when I was much younger. My best and final husband told me I had the disposition of a rattlesnake. Of course he never met you so in comparison he might have thought better of me.

MDavisnowell, lighten up biotch. It was a joke referencing one of bgriffin's wiseass comments from page 2 or 3. Final husband is probably the smartest thing you said in that last post.
Been trying to lighten up but still a fluffy 16. You could lighten up on people a bit yourself. Yes, that final husband was a good guy and a real keeper.

Final? All my dreams are gone. :/

How did we get from politics to rats? Oh wait, that was my fault. And come to think about it, there is a definite connection. Maybe from now on I can use a new expression "I don't give a politicians butt".
Or if you wanted to go REALLY old school you could say "I don't give a tinker's dam."

OK, I googled "tinkers dam" and it refers to the solder holder (a dam) that tinkers used to solder pots and pans. While a "tinkers damn" refers to the cursing by tinkers. Apparently they cursed a lot.

I also googled " two hoots (in a barrel). Couldn't find the derivation and no mention of a barrel. It does mean you don't care about whatever. Need help here Cettie.

I kind of like "politician's butt" (for not giving) when you don't like something. Something pretty useless and no problem in giving it away.
Edited to say: I googled it myself and it seems to be slightly different than what I've ever heard.

I've never associated politics with mystery shopping, and don't I think I ever would. As a shopper, it is our responsibility to provide a service to the msc. I don't feel it's our position to be concerned about the politics of the msc or their customers.

If you are concerned about politics and feel it is necessary to know, that's your prerogative, but your personal views should not be a factor for anyone but yourself.
I thought I diverted this thread away from politics and to inane, useless factoids. I think you have to go back a page or to find anything political d111. But your righteous indignation is noted.
