Have you ever requested a higher payment "after" a shop?

Many times, I have requested a higher payment before a shop when I knew the shop would take more time than it was worth. A couple of schedulers have usually agreed. One time, I requested an additional payment "after" a shop because of the complexity of the shop and the amount of time it took. The scheduler agreed and it didn't seem to affect my standing with the company. Just wondered if this was a common thing to do or if it's frowned upon.

Wow that sounds like a great and understanding scheduler since you already completed the assignment; there is no incentive to bonus it on his/her end!
Mostly the request will get nowhere. If the scheduler found that you had been a real asset to them and felt you needed to be coddled, they may have consented. If you can get away with it, more power to you!
Yes, I requested more money on one shop. This was a repeat performance gig I've done for years for this company, and I happened upon one that ran an hour and fifteen minutes longer than normal. I didn't ask for a specific amount but I did inquire if they would consider an adjustment. That paid me an extra $10 and I appreciated their response. It wasn't much considering the amount of extra time but it showed good faith on their part.

Definitely not all schedulers behave the same way. Luckily there are some who are considerate like the one you dealt with. My rule of thumb is always get on their good side!
The schedulers are human too. You are a good shopper for them and consistent with great reporting. If you plead your case, that the shop turned out much longer/complex/difficult than anticipated, any scheduler worth her/his salt will adjust your payment. smiling smiley
I asked for a payment for preparation for shops that never happened. Maritz was going to do a particular gas station program. I had done a lot of reading and a webinar. The program never happened (at least not in my area). In writing, I politely laid out all the preparation time I put in and they came back asking what I thought would be a fair payment. I requested $50 and received it within two weeks.
I wish I'd asked for an adjustment after the fact on a recent shop I did. But it never occurred to me that this was "kosher," plus, knowing this MSC, they wouldn't have done it and probably would have taken offense. This is the same company that offered me a whopping $7 for gas/mileage allowance on a shop 60+ miles round trip for me, and which they were having trouble filling!

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
I've never asked after, but have been lucky enough to have bonuses given to me after the fact because of something going haywire. I remember a video shop that had to be uploaded about six times before the MSC finally received the darn thing. The video manager put a dollar amount to his appreciation of my extra effortsmiling smiley

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
I had a bit added after the fact to a business verification that was more than advertised. I emailed the scheduler, just to let them know, it should really have been priced higher as it was more involved that the typical inspection. They added extra to my fee which I really appreciated since I wasn't asking for more.
