Papa John's pictures

I have done 2 Papa Johns shops, for 2 different companies. The first one came back saying the client said the pics weren't clear (unlikely, I used a 12mp camera) and wanted additional pictures. The 2nd msc just emailed saying the client is requesting additional pictures and I just sent them. I'm wondering if a shopper doesn't have any other pictures the client just says the provided pics aren't good enough?

Was the photo focused and lighted properly? Megapixels don't matter if the picture wasn't focused and lighted appropriately in the first place.

Shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado. 33 year old male and willing to travel!

Yup they were. I take them on my pool table under a nice light so it has an appropriate amount of lighting.

I completed 10 successful shops for one particular msc. Always received a 10. The one report that was "bad" the client stated the pictures weren't clear. Even though the msc had already graded me a 10. I used the same camera I used in all of my previous shops, same location in my apt, same lighting.

The msc agreed my pictures were clear but asked for others. I sent three for the evaluation and didn't have any others. My shop was rejected. I was not paid and did not do anymore papa john shops.
Personally, I don't trust the client. Apparently they can reject and refuse to pay for the shop at any point. I'm sure it keeps their costs low to reject pictures for a certain number of shops while keeping the money for the crappy product. Why MSCs kowtow to them is beyond me.

LisaSTL, that is exactly why I avoid ALL shops that require more than one picture--it is far too easy for an arbitrary decision that your pics "aren't good enough," thus costing the shopper a lot of time and effort. I realize that avoiding such shops costs me opportunities, but it is exactly for reasons such as you state that keep such shops on my 10' pole list.
Guess I have been lucky. No rejections in past 500 shops or so with the various MSCs, even back when we had to mutilate the pizza with a box cutter they never threw them back at me. I do take at least 10 photos of the top view now and submit my best 3. It has been a nice supplemental income for me over the years, even though the last MSC owes me money I will probably never see, I still came out way ahead. Keeping fingers crossed no rejections with new MSC.
Opanel, I never avoid shops just because of photos. AFAIK, this is the only client who has regularly refused shops.

JAS, for one of the companies from a few years ago I never had any rejected. Like I said, it is the client I don't trust.

Oh I agree, Lisa. The client is odd. They have outed shoppers who gave them great reviews that could never go back and shop them again, taking a chance that the next shopper might not find their food and service as pleasing. Pretty silly if you ask me.
That's the store level. I don't trust them all the way up to the owner. It wouldn't surprise me if stores outed shoppers to be a PITA to corporate, not the shoppers.

I have not done any of these in a while, but I ALWAYS took extra pictures. I have done dozens of them and I have only been asked for additional pictures, once. I provided the additional photos I had, and was paid. To anyone doing these, I would suggest taking extra photos, each and every time.
I was outed at one store by both the last MSC and the one who is doing them now. After a year or so had passed they put me back in rotation for that store. But, for that location, I now use a fake name, block my phone number when calling and give my landline # (they had my cell before), and pay cash just to be safe.
I'm glad I read this today. I just accepted one so now I know to take a lot of extra pictures!
I think some of the photo rejections are situation specific. If a pizza appears to have bubbles in the crust or spots with no cheese, for example, the client wants to be able to tell for sure based on the photos. So, with the exact same picture quality, nine pizzas without any noticeable defects gets approved, but the tenth gets rejected because the client is unable to determine if a dark area is a lack of cheese or just cheese that looks dark. This is just conjecture on my part, but is based on my experience with instances where I am asked to send more photos by QC. I always take high quality photos, and sometimes even the best photo taken from a certain height won't give the detail they want, so I have begun taking closeup shots of any potential problem areas on the pizza just in case.

Good idea. The last pizza I had did seem to have 'defects' - bubbles in the crust. If I do any more I will do some close ups too just in case.

I was outted and could not do PJ shops for 1.5 years. Overkill if you ask me. They are very picky about pictures. I am careful to take a lot of pictures, have very good lighting and change my camera to incandescent or natural daylight as needed so my pictures do not get a yellow or blue tint (florescent light gives me too much yellow.) I am back doing PJ shops since I have been "allowed" back in the fold. When they "out" so many shoppers they are really shooting themselves in the foot AND allowing the local General Managers to get rid of shoppers they do not like by ratting on them. I have done probably 100 PJ shops and only once were pictures rejected (not by the MSC but by PJ) for being too dark. Take great pictures- they are picky. One way to check is to make sure you can read the garlic cup (most of the fine print on it- at least the word "special".)
That happened two times to me after I had done dozens of them with no problem. I spoke with the scheduler and he was understanding but the client gets the last word. I understand this but I will not do any more of them. The pictures looked fine to me and scheduler thought they were ok but they were not.
I understand as this was almost exactly what happened to me and was told the exact same thing and I too got a 10.
I just had my shop rejected and the reason was a "yellow tinge" on the photo! I contacted the company to challenge this because it's ridiculous! They asked me to provide another photo which I did and I got that response. I am fighting this because it seems to me that it's way to easy for the Client to reject a photo after I've purchased that nasty pizza (I hate their regular pizza-only thin crust for me). I sent a comment from one of the posters in this forum (anonymously) where specific suggestions were given in order to take photos. I told the Company Contact that those suggestions should be added to the guidelines because they would have been a tremendous help. It's not about taking a ton of photos but taking the right kind! Annoyed!!!
SStazz, thanks for the codes. I know we have to see if they offer promotions at the beginning of the call. Have you had any problems using coupons on the shops? I live in the country and so they won't deliver to us and one pie isn't enough, just wish we could do the gluten free ones for mom!
Mod note: Post removed as it breached the Forum guideline which states, "Do not reveal the clients of mystery shopping companies". Additionally, it is usually an ICA violation to name both the MSC and client.
PJs pizzas are also far too gummy and gluey. and you are not allowed to order it "well done"........SOOOOO,, after I take my pictures and taste a sample piece I put the rest on my outdoor grill. Boy does it taste soo much better!! The crust gets crackly and you can hear the "snap" of the crust when you bite in. All the excess gummy moisture of the crust evaporates. I just turn my grill on, wait for it to come up to full throttle hot, then turn it OFF and put the pizza pieces on the grill and close the lid. MUCH BETTER. Keep an eye on the pizza it will only take 5-10 minutes for the crust to be done and it can get burnt easily even after you have turned it off- depending on your grill.
I take my pizzas out into the sunlight and turn my flash OFF. I know they say to turn it on, but it makes funny shadows. I take that bad boy out to my patio and snap a few photos landscape and portrait. I do the same with the receipt sheets. Worked pretty well, knock on wood. Grabbed up a bonus at $25 on one today and used it with a coupon to get a good price and extra garlic knots. No issues. I'm wracking up the points with them. At one point, I had enough points saved to get 13 pizzas.... it was nutty. We ended up doing parties with our Trio Program groups at the college.

I just did two Papa John's shops late this afternoon that were about six miles apart from each other as carryouts for $21.50 each (yeah, I know, weird amount but I wanted $23 and she wanted to pay $20 so we met in the middle). I submitted them about an hour ago and just got a 10 score on the first one I submitted!! Talk about a record-breaking fast edit!
@JASFLALMT I performed my shop at 5:45 PM EST ish and received my email of approval at 6:09 PM EST. They are on it tonight. I submitted three other shops for the MSC this morning and they're all edited too. Someone is working today.

Yeah, I am sure they must be getting close to deadline. Shops in my area usually go pretty fast with this MSC and people take them at the base pay (never me, LOL). I think this month some people must be busy or perhaps had rejected shops last month, since my scheduler was willing to go over $20 for the shops.

Just got my second shop "10" grade. Done.
I'm right there with you. I picked up some from $16 to $25 each this week. Must be crunch time. And they switched from delivery to carry-out. My hollow isn't on the delivery route so if I ever do get a delivery, I have to visit a relative and share pizza grinning smiley
