Holiday Season

Just curious, does mystery shopping slow down during the holiday season October-December?

No.

For a more verbose answer, it depends, LOL. Retail will often drop off. Stores hiring temporary Christmas help are not always hip to the idea of paying to have them mystery shopped. Those folks are more often just warm bodies who can't be expected to have a great deal of product knowledge. I have not noticed a similar lack of shops in many industries such as new cars, apartments or gas station audits.

One change is for most clients/MSCs, it will be the fourth quarter. The short time to wrap up shops in November and December so everyone can get a holiday break also means end of the month and end of the quarter comes much earlier from the bonus perspective.

On top of what LisaSTL said, retailers also don't want to tie up their associates with non-customers during their busiest season.

However, at the same time, many shoppers take off during the holidays, so while there are less retail shops, the other shop volumes do not change and there are less shoppers trting to do them.

I avoid retail shops between the end of October to mid January. I wait until Christmas presents have been exchanged or returned to go near them.
