Marriott/SPG Platinum Arrival

If they really want to test what Platinum guests care about, they'll give up on this "putting the key on the bar" BS and instead test whether or not a guest is offered a room upgrade at check-in. There should be questions about what upgraded rooms are available online for that night, what you were offered, if you were offered without asking, etc.
Seriously, I do not care about ANYTHING other than that when arriving at a Marriott/SPG property.

Well, the problem with that is that the desk can only offer an upgrade if there are such rooms available. That is often not the case. The key on the bar is an improvement over the bar questions that it replaced; trust me on that!

At the time you check in, you can look online to see what rooms are available. I've done it in the past on non-shops and had to get a manager to approve the upgrade when the front desk agent refused. You shouldn't have to do that as a platinum member.

Same here. I never do that on a shop, but have literally pulled out my phone and showed them available rooms on the app when they told me they were 'at capacity'.

I'm at a SPG property right now now where for the first time ever, the hotel truly booked out. The manager had a bottle of wine set up in the room on arrival with an apology for not being to provide an upgrade....

Yup, whenever I'm staying on non-shops, I always take advantage as a platinum member on any of the chains where I have that benefit, even if I have to push on the amenities and benefits by speaking to a manager.

I had one instance, when I was new at this, where I showed the desk agent that an upgrade was available online. She didn't care. She only went by what she claims was visible in her computer. I went so far as to actually hit "book it," which turned out to be a very bad idea. Cancelling that stupid booking took forever since it was same-day. Got too hot-headed that day...

Sometimes our 'entitled customer' attitudes take over us, even if we were in the right haha. On the bright side, as long as it was cancelled, no harm, right?

Other than my ego and sensibilities, no harm at all.

Yeah. You're going to have to figure out which MSC it is on your own, too, rather than PM'ing. You clearly know better.
