Metro PCS Wireless asking for my phone number

I did several of the purple wireless shops today. In about half of them, the rep asked me for my phone number to "see if I was eligble" for the promotion. I didn't feel comfortable giving out my number, so I didn't. Has anyone else had this happen? At one location, he said something about people bouncing back and forth between say Boost and Metro PCS and Cricket. It was creepy to me. Most of the Metro PCS around here are creepy period. but when bonused, I do them.

Happened to me this week at one of the ones in the scarier neighborhood, but not at the other three. When I declined, however, they were perfectly nice and didn't push and the shop was otherwise uneventful.

Doing my best, every day
I would never give a phone where it could ring on my end, either home or cell. Because, like car dealerships, once you give them your email or phone# they keep contacting you. I always have a phone# ready to give if I must but it won't ring and it's something i can monitor.
I use a burner phone number. MPCS says they wanted to check to see if my number was on their database. I did not care because the number was not on my database either. There was no issue with the report.

ATT, Sprint, Verizon ask for our number also, but is that creepy?

Did you ever noticed, before you get to the MPCS store, how many ATT, Verizons, and Sprint stores you pass?

Even in a "scary" or "creepy" neighborhood, money is too be made.
Maybe I'm dumb, but wouldn't giving them you number blow the shop if you are a MPCS customer? I am a customer and I do lots of the shops saying I am a ATT, Sprint, TMobil etc wanting to switch. Can't they see you are a MPCS customer?
I didn't give my number and I just won't. I was just curious if it had happened in other areas. So weird I have done these for a while, and then all of a sudden they are asking. They never asked before. I guess its due to people trying to get the promo over and over. I have my service with AT&T and sometimes they ask on those shops, but I never give it. Because of course it would show up as a customer hehe and here I am looking for new service. Most of the times I even park a bit away of Metro PCS so they don't see my car. Since I have repeated through some of them, I don't want them to see what I drive. They share info and many of the locations are family owned. So I go to a "new" location, but there is the same agent hehe. I am "looking again..."

TinaMarie, they asked for my telephone number yesterday to see if I was "eligible" for a promotion. I did not provide it.
I really think its kind of new. It really took me off guard. I kind of understand since they are now offering the $150 off phones. I am just glad to know that it is legit. I just told them I would be eligible since I have been with my current carrier for many years and that I wouldn't give out my phone number until decide to switch.

I give them the phone number that we had when I was in grade school. Even if it is the wrong area code. that shouldn't matter now a days what with no more long distance charges.
