I got my first hazard shop last month and this month I picked up a few box shops. now I have to actually make up some boxes,

Only about 1/3 of those that are usually posted showed up in my area. All the hard-to-fill are apparently not being done???

I just applied for the six locations closest to me, and usually get at least one or two of them.

Sorry to hear that Kathy. I have one scheduler who assigns many of the ones I apply for and another scheduler who schedules a nearby area who has never assigned me a shop. I keep trying and maybe one day I'll break through.

I've only got 2 this month. Some are still in app status, I don't know what's up with them. Admittedly I didn't apply for as many as I usually do because I've got a lot going on this week, but still I had hoped for more.

I used to get almost all the shops I applied for and filled my schedule doing the jobs but over the past few quarters, I'm lucky to pick up the dregs another shopper messes up or doesn't want. So far I haven't gotten any I applied for.
Me too, I used to get all of the ones I applied for. I got less each month and I got the ones that were across town from each other and not the ones close by each other and I didn't want to continue doing that for the pay. If I can get the 5 or 6 that are close to each other, that can help pay for the ones that are across town. Without those, it's a no-go for me.
I will sometimes include a note to the scheduler in that box that pops up asking to only be assigned "X" shop if I can also do "Y & Z" shops due to distance. It has worked out. I agree. I don't want to be stuck with one orphaned shop several miles away when there are several along the way.

Are the P.O. shops pretty easy? I'm thinking of signing up for one that is close to my home.
They are super complcated. You are dealing with Federal Mandates. Only very experienced shoppers should do these.

Very easy, and you can enter the report on the phone app in less than five minutes.
L.Dot listen to SoCal not Spicy. Try 1. They look intimidating because there are a LOT of questions. But the questions are pretty easy to answer and there's no narrative required.

Thanks for your honesty

You should have said, "Thanks for your sarcasm."
Sure, the report is easy to fill out because of the way it's set up but the shop itself is not easy like a drive-thru burger shop. These are some of the most serious assignments out there as they can have to do with package blowing up in airplanes or on conveyor belts. That happened recently at FedEx, lest we forget. Each and every question and observation needs to be absolutely precise. Zero mistakes are allowed on these, complacency doesn't work on these. The Flag flying has great meaning. These are to assist in keeping a "company" that is an American institution from going the way of the Dodo bird and privatizing our letters and packages to family, friends, colleagues and customers.

@SoCalMama I thought you blocked me. Why are you following me around this site negating everything I say?

@sassymmmm You can't have your own expressions of thought without negating other people's? I see you've joined that club.

Just curious, who do you send packages to? eBay buyers, family, food pantries, yourself, mailing buddy?

I usually do eBay and Etsy packages as well as mailing food to a food bank on my list or a shelter on my list. Cans of dog and cat food are perfect for heavy and inexpensive items!

This past round was sprung on me last second and I'm always happy to get a bonus... so grandma received preserves, onions, cornmeal, baking powder, peas, and applesauce.

I just wish the MSC used Sassie — I’d catch a lot more of these... I shop part time so don’t have time to run around checking all the MSPs so rely a lot on JobSlinger Plus... so a lot of my shopping is weighed to the Sassie companies plus a couple Prophet companies I love and religiously check. The problem with ShopMetrics and ISS is that the aggregator sites/app just doesn’t work nearly as well as what they put together for Sassie — so I usually rely on my e-mail for these or if they go through KSS... less desperate scheduler, less e-mails lol

I find these super easy and I pay close attention to detail and aim for 100% on all shops I do. I do not do drive thrus. Perhaps they are easier even for those of us who read and follow rules and make zero mistakes except for rare occasions.
There are great little shops.... I tend not to do a lot of them, but will actively seek them in out-of-the-way areas on my routes. They sometimes put very nice bonuses on them....

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
I just email the scheduler around the end of the month at the end of each quarter and ask about release dates. Then I know.

My husband, who usually got every postal shop he applied for (as many as 20), only got four this time around. I have no idea why. He was really disappointed.
Maybe there is a new shopper (or a few) in your area taking them. Tell him at the beginning of next quarter he should email the scheduler asking for a release date/time, then when they are released, he should arrange to be near the computer so he can apply for them ASAP, then copy and paste each location in an email and a date range he would like to do them and send it to her. That's what I do.

There were only two in my area this month so far when there are probably 15 or more post offices within a couple of miles of me. My nieces bday is coming up so I hope I get one of them. Maybe they are cutting back in the urban nicer neighborhoods...they probably have fewer issues. They almost always do the things I consider important well. Personally I do not care if they do not mention or circle the survey and those type things or if the employee is not wearing a button cover or a tie.
How do you know if your package weighs one pound when you are wrapping and taking the photos?? Once you get to the PO it is too late to find that out. I have had two or three of them go awry because they didn't weigh one pound. Any suggestions?

Buy a postage scale on eBay for less than $20.
Some people found scales at thrift stores too.
if you sign up a Stamps.com, you can get a scale for the cost of shipping, so $10. You can cancel during the month and not get charged for the membership. It's a great digital scale.
they are still exist: I picked few for coming weeks. i am usually picking them when I need something to be shipped for free to my daughters..

Shopping Eastern Pennsylvania since 2009
I have an old postage scale but you can also get a cheap plastic food scale. It weighs close enough and you dont want to get too close to the 2 lb mark as sometimes the post office scale seems off by a bit and I never want to argue with them on a shop. My food scale was only a couple of dollars and goes to 4 pounds in 1/16 lb increments.
You are allowed to go over 2lbs but you won’t get reimbursed for anything over the allotted amount. You do have to make sure it weighs at least one lb so that they won’t offer first class shipping.
My postal scale and the post office receipt always match exactly (at my post offices, anyway). Anne is completely right that you can go over the 2 lbs. mark, and if you are mailing in zone 1 or 2 you should still come under the amount if it's between 2-3 lbs. I typically reuse old boxes and sometimes mail to zones much further than my zone 1, and I stay between 1-2 pounds and never go over the reimbursement amount.
