Post Office Shops

So far I've only been given one of these shops for quarter 3. I've just requested another one, but I do have trouble getting shops from this MSC. It seems like they will give me shops that are far away from my home, but the ones right next door that I apply for are never awarded. It's frustrating. I'm sure there is someone else out there in my area that has more history with this MSC that is being awarded these local shops. I like the post office shops because I can send books for free to people on BookMooch that request them from me. (it's a book sharing website). Sometimes I have to send two books since one book doesn't weigh enough. No one ever complains though. smiling smiley

I haven't done these since they were with the 'naked' company but it seems counterproductive to buy anything to put in the packages unless I'm sending it to a food bank. I collected all those free "Apartment Finder" magazines at gas stations or other free mags. I have occasionally topped up with rocks from the parking lot. smiling smiley My family got used to interesting additions to their birthday cards.

Shopping domestic and international locations since 2003.
I love the company - they pay 2x a month - but have had a rough time with the schedulers. They do not answer emails, they assign the shop at the last minute, sometimes I get the assignment the day it is due, you cannot self assign, you apply for 5 shops and are assigned 1 so your route is off etc. The worst is when you apply for shops and do not hear anything back from the scheduler and still see the job posted as available. Drives me crazy. Lately I am getting spammed by them for other companies that they schedule for, that I am not registered with, not okay with me. Currently they have a shop posted with the street address without the name of the town. Again, they expect professionalism from us and they....are not professional.
I would LOVE if this company allowed us to self-assign! Many of their shops are scheduled only a few days out. I plan much further out than that. If no one takes a shop I’d like and the date gets pushed out, I eventually might apply if I can work it into a route. However, you might not hear anything back about it and yet it needs to get done very soon. Also, many of their shops require that you haven’t shopped that location for any MSC in the last 3 months. I strongly consider the fee attached when deciding if I want the shop...$12 but it becomes unshoppable for a quarter of the year. I’ll probably pass. Beyond these few issues, I really love working for them!
AnneAshley, my rules do not include waiting 3 months to reshop a location. In fact for my local post office I have done it two months in a row. I cannot remember but I think it is now 18 days (don't quote me) so I think you are doing post office shops through a different company than the rest of us.
As far as getting post offices in your neighborhood I doubt the schedulers really know where your neighborhood is. I live in Los Angeles and many schedulers, unless they have lived in LA which seems to happen, think somewhere 50 miles away is in my neighborhood just because it is in the same city or county of the same name. And if your neighborhood is in an urban area it is possible they have many shoppers for your location. You might email the scheduler and let him/her know which ones are close to home when you request them.

We are talking about the same MSC. That’s true that there is a shorter rotation for the USPS shops but for most of their other shops that are located in large electronic stores, for instance, they state the 3 month rotation.

No one on here can tell you the name of the company without violating their ICA. But, send an email to judith@summitscheduling.com and she can tell you what you need to know.

You are allowed to go over 2lbs but you won’t get reimbursed for anything over the allotted amount. You do have to make sure it weighs at least one lb so that they won’t offer first class shipping.
Yes, true about going over 2 lbs. I have 2 thrift stores I use to send stuff to for these PO shops. Several times the weight has come in as much as 2.5#, but the shipping for priority still comes in under the reimbursement, and so it is all covered. I think it helps that the locations aren't too far away, one about 150 miles away and the other about 240 miles away.
My hazmat shipping buddy has been sending me the state of Arizona one or two rocks at a time. She has ran out of the free phone books I guess.
I'm doing my best 2stepps. lol. Aribacat, where are you located, I could spread Arizona around a little anyway if you're in the right zone. smiling smiley

Hello -- I also perform the shipping shops, but the food bank that I was using to mail food to no longer accepts donations sent by mail. If anyone know of any other food bank or thrifts stores that accepts donations via mail please let me know. Thanks.
I send canned vegetables to food banks in New Jersey and in West Virginia. I'm sure that they will welcome your donations. Their addresses are:

Cathedral Kitchen
1514 Federal Street
Camden, N. J. 08105

Old Man Rivers
703 Pike Street
Parkersburg, WV 26101
I must look so honest and not like a terrorist. Just sent two hazmat packages and no questionssad smiley I need some tape and hate to pay so much for it!

I sent 6 in the last two days!
I actually would prefer stamps.
So few were available in my area that I was only able to nab one hazmat approved shipper shop last week. I'm pretty sure that I got it because the town it's in and the town closest to it don't have any shoppers. No matter the MSC I've noticed that shops in these towns take a while to get filled. The good news was the clerk refused the package so I got some stamps and it took no time at all.

I know what you mean. They don't even ask anything, just take your money! The last one was inside a cute little shop that had some really nice things for about $10 each but I am almost going to have to buy tape again and not happy to have to pay full price.
I send my pack to a food bank and address it to someone on their board. I send a $.50 box of baking soda. Cheap and works well for all the hazmat scenarios.

*Edited spelling, it was so bad I couldnt even read what I wrote

A complete waste of their time to unbox that. You can’t send something more meaningful?
If I were sending to a food bank, I would probably opt for rice, pasta, or beans instead, but a box of baking soda is great for me to send to my friend in Florida who uses it frequently for all sorts of household cleaning tasks. Cheap and about the right weight, thanks for the tip.
Amen

Tell me something more useful costing under $.50, im open to suggestions but im not made of of money

I ship to my mom in the non 5-7 zone assignments, shes got a new puppy so the baking soda is coming in very useful in cleaning up
My friend in zone 5 can build a driveway with all the bags of gravel I've sent! That's useful.
When I get desperate sometimes for things to fill my packages I look out at my landscaping rocks in the front yard and consider shipping a few till I remember how expensive they are per bag. As it is, I'm constantly replacing the ones the little neighbor kids take when they are out on walks with their parents completely oblivious to the expense.
Any suggestions on where I can buy cheap boxes. They ask for around 12 inch x 12 inch x12 inch or less.
