I called once a few years ago and the amt they could haul away for the reimbursement was a size I could just leave on the curb for the trash people. So I did not sign up for the job.
So if I get a crazy quote can I just turn them away? I know it’s not ideal to cancel a shop but I’m not paying a ton of money for work that i can handle. I was hoping for the convenience and free
I did this shop. It was easy, and I was able to get rid of a heavy rolling table. I chose to do this as my “day off” and did a lot of fall cleaning that I’d been meaning to get done. It’s a larger amount to lay out, but it is reimbursed. I had a positive experience. I noticed that some of the questions related to integrity, so I can see why this is necessary.

I definitely had junk to get rid of! I applied for and was assigned this shop before my brain figured out that I wouldn't be reimbursed the almost $200 for a month or so.

I did this one when I needed a some things removed from my new house that were left by former tenants. The visit took about fifteen minutes and the report was quick and easy. I know that for some people, the 45-day period is a long time to wait for the reimbursement, but I also had a "spend this much, get a bonus" offer on a new credit card at the time, so it actually benefited me to have such a large reimbursed expense. I've only done one, so I'm not sure if this is true for all Got Junk? shops but my guidelines required me to ask for a discount, which I believe they typically grant, so that's something to think about in considering whether the cost is worth it.

I have this shop coming up and am hoping to get rid of as much crud as I can. The guidelines mention a "small dresser or nightstand" as a reference for volume of refuse.... What?!? That's hardly worth the time for such a tiny amount. We're gutting the place after our most recent tenant....disgusting.
Hmm. If you have lots of large stuff, can you shed it via another mystery shop? For example, could you rent uhaul or other brand and use that to remove the large items?

I'm thinking that I may only get a 3'x3' amount of trash hauled off - seems expensive for close to $200. For $300 incl dump fee I can have a junker come and fill up a pickup truck.
I did this shop and they wanted close to $200 to haul a 3x3 foot bunch of junk. I was allowed to decline it and I did-- told them I'd have to ask my husband first before I spent that much. It was an easy report.

OK - did my junk shop. They took more than I expected and I was happy with the service.

Did one recently, it's easy but they only reimburse for the minimum load size which is basically a couple garbage bags. For $120 it's crazy. The guys on the truck did me a favour and loaded extra on so it was worth it in the end. Kind of a BS shop that is always available, from different companies, for a reason.
After originally considering a garage sale, I have begun to think about one of these shops instead. Based on what everyone is saying, I would rather spend a couple of hours having a friend with a pick up take it all to Goodwill. My "pile" of stuff is approaching 10'x10'. It bugs me but still takes up such a small section of my basement the shop is not really motivating me now, LOL.

I would do these shops again, if rotation allowed. I was extremely pleased that they took away more than expected. For my last shop, they took away an old formica counter w/. sink, a nasty, stove vent hood, and 2 box springs - gutting a rental. I can have a charity pick up my usable discards and have the junkers take away stuff no one would want.
Yes 1800GOTJUNK is stil shopped but the MSC I use has a 6 month rotation. I find these shops easy to do. I get paid for having some junk hauled out of my garage.
Did one. Quick and easy. Took stuff i couldn't put out in regular trash. Workers were pleasant

Ugh, not good! The guidelines stated that if they agreed to a lower price to go ahead with the junk removal. So I asked for a deal and they gave me one. But as I was about to ask for a receipt, one of the guys said he was going to input in the system that I cancelled the pickup, and they would just take the payment in cash. So that is how it ended up. I wish I didn’t even take this shop.
You did well, Jessica. I'm sure that's EXACTLY what the company owners were trying to find out. He used the company truck, on time he was being paid for, and likely the company was billed for the dump fees. Imagine how much money you just saved the company -- if he did it for you, he did it for many others. Employee theft is a major problem.

If you want to do good donate to someone other than goodwill. Salvation Army, council for the blind, Purple Heart almost anywhere is better than goodwill.
I’ve done these a couple times when I’ve moved — there’s always at least a couple pieces of junk that I’d rather just not deal with. Overall it’s OK, but as previously stated, the smallest load size is pretty small, and if I had to pay for it, I’d feel it was a total rip-off.
This most recent time I had a couple carpet rolls I needed to get rid of — since they were heavy and awkward I thought it’d be perfect. The rep on the phone asked for the size and type of items, and she said it’d fit in the minimum load size. Guys get out, and charge me $100 extra because it’s “so heavy”... was never told about overweight fees on the phone. So I made sure to note that all down... I mentally justified it that paying $100 to have the problem gone was fine since I was shopping them — but if it was the full $280 when I was quoted 180 I would have been very irritated.
Overall this certainly seems like the “squeaky clean” looking company you call when anything else would just be a bit too shady... and you pay through the nose for it. Lol

I received an email from the MSC and this project involves calling and having them come to your house for an estimate, you don't have them haul anything, only get an estimate.
Live consciously....
I haven’t done them, but I have seen two types shops for them - one is just an estimate and the other has them actually haul the stuff...
