Not weird at all. I did a Black Walnut Bar Shop this week. It did not require a photo but I took one of the Peach Frozen Bellini and texted to my brother. He is a beer-drinker and he texts me pictures of beers all the time.
Try a frozen strawberry margarita. Or a frozen bellini. They don't even taste alcoholic. Or order a Cuba Libre (rum and coke with lime) or a glass of white wine. My girlfriend carries her drink to the bathroom and dumps it. My mom once dumped her beer in a plant near the bar. Nobody cares. Nobody notices. Unless you act all sneaky and look around and get furtive...... then you attract attention. And you can always just leave a half-drunk drink on the bar when you leave.

I don't drink at all, like, I have never had alcohol ever in my life.
It's OK. Don't feel weird about the photos and don't try to hide them. EVERYbody does it. It can be to text to someone, email to your sister who would love that drink, Facebook, or just for your photo album. It's not weird to walk across the room carrying a drink. Don't try to hide it. A lot of women take drinks with them when they move away from the bar because of the risk of someone putting something in it. Being with someone else, that wouldn't be a risk, but a woman might be in the habit of carrying the drink with her. Trust me. I've done a lot of bar shops and I've had drinks at a lot of bars that were not shops, and believe me when I say, nobody cares. Just act natural no matter what you do. Relax and enjoy yourself. The only thing I caution you about: don't leave more than half the drink (pour it our, dump in toilet, whatever) but don't give the bartender the idea you don't like it. He might comp it and that would make the shop messy. Worse: he might offer to fix you something else and then you'd be stuck with another drink you don't want.
Order a drink with the alcohol on the side. Drink 75% of the mixer, then dump the shot glass into the dregs. Done!
AS roflwofl said you do not have to drink it. And another trick, if possible for the job, is to go to the bar part during happy hour. Then you can order a fancy drink or a wine/beer for less $$ since you are planning to dump/not drink. Check your instructions as many restaurant shops want you to order a non beer drink to see if the bartender suggests upgrading the liquor in it. There are past threads you might find by searching on this topic. Lots of ideas on what to do. I drink my drinks so I do not remember all the advice.

Sounds good. I appreciate the advice. I was wondering about the alcohol on the side part. Happy hour starts at 9 pm, and we both have work early on Monday. I leave close to 5 am for work. We need to get there the earliest at 7 tonight, so I planned on hitting the bar first.
Since you have to take a picture of the drink, you should probably check with the MSC to be sure it is okay to order the alcohol on the side. Better safe than sorry.

I am always a little confused by this. If you don't drink why do you take drink compliance shops? Anyway, just my two cents. If I didn't eat meat I wouldn't take a hamburger shop.

I feel that it would be extremely noticeable if you either A) didn't have the drink or 
took it to the bathroom. I have never seen anyone take their drink to the bathroom, unless it's a standing room only place. At a restaurant or a bar guests leave their drink at the table and drink it when they return. I may be a bit forward here, but is this an appropriate shop for you if neither you nor your husband drink??? The client wouldn't have you ordering an alcoholic beverage if they didn't want your opinion on presentation or taste.

100% agree. I have never in my life seen a normal person order a virgin drink with alcohol on the side. A beer with a shot on the side, but nothing like that.@oteixeira wrote:

oteixeira, I was thinking the same thing. I don't eat sushi I wouldn't take a sushi shop. I was wondering the logic behind it. Maybe the fee is exorbitant?

I suppose, but I don't accept shops where I can't/wont be able to meet the requirements. Maybe it's just me, and I am not trying to bash anyone, this is just one of those things I will never understand. This is not the first time I have seen a subject about a shop that requires alcohol but the OP doesn't drink.

There is more to this than the alcohol, this is a restaurant shop. I was straight up with the MSC and told them I do not drink. They said I did not have to drink it, but I had to order it. I am not pulling a fast one on them. If they said I had to drink it, I would not have accepted the job. My husband has had alcohol before. He could try it, if they want to know what it tastes like. He has not had a drink in the 15 years we have been together though, but he isn't opposed to it like I am.
Order a vodka soda with a lime and have your husband order cmb soda or sprite. Take your pictures. Husband drinks his soda. You then pour most of your drink into his glass. Even if someone sees you they will assume you are just sharing your drink with your guy.
Agree with others that many people take pictures for their Instagram account (appropriately captured with something like “relaxing after work with my hubby” or whatever). I wouldn’t do the dump in a bathroom unless I had to (I was alone, pregnant so I couldn’t drink, and I had to order two drinks myself).

Exactly. And ordering a virgin drink with alcohol on the side is not the same as ordering an alcoholic drink. Would you:
1) photograph both the virgin drink and the alcohol on the side together in one photo? This may not show the client what they want to see.
2) Or would you just photograph the virgin drink, moving the alcohol away and not mention that you didn't order alcohol in the drink?
Taking a photograph and pouring out part of a drink doesn't sound weird and probably nobody would notice. Ordering a virgin drink with alcohol on the side and then photographing it just sounds weird. If anything makes you stick out like a sore thumb, it would be that. Like SoCalMama, I have never seen anyone order a virgin drink with the alcohol on the side.
We will be there in a half hour. I will order two alcoholic drinks. I will photograph two alcoholic drinks. My husband will try them.

Have fun. Not every restaurant job requires a bar visit. I’d stick to those when you can find them.

My husband had the wine. He used to drink wine with dinner before he met me. And, we ordered a frozen drink with alcohol at the bar. It ended up being fine. I am still alcohol free. I don't understand how people drink rum. It smelled like turpentine.
It took two and a half hours to finish the report though. That was the most I have ever spent on dinner in my life.

The fear of taking pictures during a shop must be a generational thing. Speaking as a millennial, I take pictures of all of my drinks and food to show off on my Snapchat, IG and Facebook. It's not suspicious or weird at all, these days. Same thing with pulling out my mini scale to measure my food servings for estimate the macros of my meals at the restaurant.

I think the OP's original suggestion of just taking the bar drink to the table and leaving it there was the best idea. When I order a drink, if I decide to not drink it then it is really nobody else's business as I am a paying customer. If asked, which I think unlikely, I would just say I changed my mind. Someone suggested they might try to comp the drink, but that would be okay I assume as long as you had the photo.
I know it's too late for the OP but just adding my tip for the future - I don't always want to drink (calories, going to the gym later, etc). In those cases, I order a vodka tonic. You can still observe - do they use the jigger, did they upsell the vodka, what was the garnich. Then after a few minutes take the drink with me to the bathroom, which is not unusual. The bartender doesn't know if you're with a husband/bf, first date or a business colleague, but anyways no one is going to ask you. Then I pour 3/4 in the bathroom sink and come back with the almost-empty glass. I order the simple clear drink with ice because it's harder to tell how full the glass is or if it's just melted ice.
Lordi, it would kill me to dump my drink down the bathroom sink. Since most of these shops don't pay much, the reimbursed premium glass of wine or margarita or other luscious cocktail is a perk of the shop. BTW, rum is yummy mixed with pineapple juice. It does not smell or taste like turpentine. Gin, on the other hand, smells like perfume to me..uck. To each his own, as they say.

Personally, if I don't feel like a nice drink, I always go for happy hour, it is limited to what you can get, but a Vodka/tonic tall with lemon, is pretty mild and about 4 bucks. Had I not wanted to enjoy a drink, I probably wouldn't do the shop, aren't you supposed to know how the drinks are made, and if they upsell.
