SCANNERS: Best for laptops???

I have not yet Googled this question, as I would rather ask my fellow shoppers which scanners are recommended for use with a new lap top???

I have read the other previous scanner threads here and on the V GOD site, but this would be for a lap top, not a desk top...

Thanks Much and Happy Thanksgiving.

I have a Toshiba laptop, and a Canon (3in1)printer, fax and scanner...works great.

Live consciously....
I have a HP laptop and use a HP all in one and it works fine. Anyone at Office Depot or Staples can help also. Do a shop and ask the question!
It really depends on whether you are looking for a scanner to use at home or on the road. My HP all-in-one connects wirelessly to my laptop so I can scan, print and probably could send a fax from the laptop (if I bothered to figure out how to fax from the laptop through the printer). But it is a piece of equipment much too large to tote around. I figured Arch was looking for an update on the portable receipt scanner stuff and if I need something on the road I just use my digital camera on it.
I would skip the scanner and get a really good digital camera and upload jpg files. My 7 mpx cam, 3 yrs old, does a terrific job and cost only about $200. You could get a similar one used or refurbished now for a fraction of that. I almost never find a use for the scan function on my big multi-purpose printer/scanner. etc any more. The SD card from my camera pops directly into the slot on either of my computers, so no need to mess with a USB cable and problems with cable connections at all. Fewer pieces of equipment is better, in my book. I don't want the extra expense of feeding a pack mule to carry my shopping gear.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.

Another method to consider is a smart phone. I use an HTC Android, it has a 8 mp camera. I take a snap of the receipt or document and send it to my G mail account. Then, I upload it to picassa, edit it and send it to my desktop where I can easily find it and send it to the MSP.
When it comes to printers and scanners, I've always been an HP person. I have an all-in-one Photosmart, which I have actually NEVER used for photos! One of the benefits for me (besides the scanner) is the xerox function. I think it really depends on your needs... If you're not in the market for a new printer, you can probably find a VERY cheap scanner to do the trick. I'd even suggest ebay or Freecycle -- I actually gave an old stand alone scanner to someone through that site, and saw other similar things up for grabs, totally free!
I've posted about this one before, but I use an older scanner. A Cannon LIDE 50.

I got it cheaply as part of a shop years ago and love it, since it's the same exact profile as my macbook and I have a 2-sided case that holds the 2 of them perfectly. It' also very lightweight.

I have an iPhone for quick scans if needed, but it's really hard to get a clean copy of the receipts with the phone, while the flatbed scanner does it quick ad easy, and drops the files on my desktop.

As a guy, I fold all of my receipts and put them in my billfold. Trying to photograph a dozen receipts at the end of the day that all look like an accordion is frustrating...
It often depends upon what your operating system is. Be sure to check specs before ordering. In that way, you won't be disappointed. I speak from experience having picked up one that didn't have compatibility with anything but Windows XP. $15 lost in a craigslist sale. And I couldn't give it away, so I donated it to Goodwill.
