Inexpensive digital camera?

Please recommend an inexpensive digital camera that will take 640x480 pic and is supper easy to use. My phone runs down too quickly when I do multiple shops and the resizing is no fun. Need a backup anyway.tks

Personally I prefer to use my smart phone for all pictures. I keep a charger in my car so the battery is never an issue. With an iPhone you can email the photos to your self and select the size you want. However if you want an inexpensive camera, just check Ebay. There are many excellent cameras on sale for a fraction of their original price since people are replacing their cameras with smartphones.
Or a pawn shop, where you can actually handle/test the camera.

I bought my very first ever camera in a pawn shop.
It depends on what you consider inexpensive. I also prefer using a digital camera as I can take accurate photos with one hand and have a spare battery if needed. I had 2 Canons that I paid around $125 for. Each lasted a year then failed because of lens problems and the repair would cost as much as the camera. I have been using a Sony for the last 2 years that cost around $150. It is smaller than a deck of cards, has a zoom lens, a panoramic feature, a rechargeable battery and a wrist strap. I believe there is a setting for 640 x 480 shots but I don't need it.

I take thousands of pictures every year so the cost of each shot is a fraction of a cent. That's inexpensive in my view.
If you have a good smart phone that will do. I use my older HTC phone and it takes nice clear pictures. You will need to get a phone with decent resolution.
I bought my small Canon at Best Buy when I started MS'ing12 years ago, simple to use, $99.00 of which I got rewards and no interest for a year. I love it and hardly use my phone camera although I have.

Live consciously....
I have an I-phone that takes excellent pictures but I still prefer my digital camera. The main reason is that I can hold it with my thumb and fore finger and use the fore finger to snap the shots while I am holding a clipboard in the other hand and can let the camera go to write on the clipboard knowing the wrist strap will secure the camera. For me, I need two hands to take pics with the phone. It is balanced very precariously if I try one handed shots. And if i drop it I'm probably out $600, or more to upgrade.
You should be recharging your phone in your car, and/or invest in an inexpensive portable battery.

A better option would be to get a battery back up for your phone. I didn’t think they were that great until I used one and they can be a shop saver
I had to replace my phone because my battery does not hold a charge. I thought about replacing my battery but my wife suggested I buy a new phone smiling smiley
The battery on my i phone would not hold a charge. I am happy with the phone and have no need to upgrade so I went to the Apple store and they replaced it for $30. I was told not to attempt to change it myself and thought the cost at the store would be at least double what I paid and the tech would try to talk me into an upgrade. Didn't happen.
I have a FujiPix camera. It is small, light weight, has an auto zoom. I have been using this one for 6 years now. I had also had a Fuji before this one and it lasted 9 years. I got this last one off of ebay for $20 new.
I get my cameras used off of ebay for around $100. I do a lot of picture audits, and I usually go through about one a year just from dropping them etc., so its's not worth buying new. On a side note, if the photos are for MaritzCX, I don't believe they have to be 640x480 any more with the new website.I usually submit mine as 1600x1200. You could submit them full-size too, I suppose, but they would take longer to upload.
Buy one of those cheapo prepaid smartphones this week. They’ll be as cheap as $10 and can used as a camera.

There are better options than emailing. iCloud or OneDrive can automatically sync them to your computer. It is a real time saver.

For all of my iPhones and iPads, I invest in OtterBox cases. They run about $50 for the phones and $80 for the tablets. The salesperson who convinced me of the value demonstrated by throwing his own phone across the store which was carpet over concrete with virtually no padding. I have dropped mine numerous times on my concrete patio without even a scratch on the case.

Yes I know that and that’s how I transfer my pictures. However she wanted to be able to resize them and emailing allows you to do that.
I have a Kodak Easyshare C183... It is actually my fourth of these. The first three broke over the eight years I have used this model. The last one came used, from eBay, for $25. It is a great little point-and-shoot camera. It has been good in extreme cold and summer heat. Most of my photos are gas stations and I decided long ago that if I ever accidentally dropped a camera in a filthy restroom that I would just walk away...

I use my cell phone for all pics. I also use a NEAT scanner, which I love, sizes all pics automatically for jpg.
I purchase the portable NEAT scanner 12" x 2", been using this for 12 years. Also sizes all receipts. Never had a call from any MSC for the wrong size. Cheaper than a camera and easy to use.
Kodak Easy Share is good for a inexpensive camera.

Cease suggested--Or a pawn shop, where you can actually handle/test the camera.

Bob's Comment--I made my first purchase at a pawn shop in 1958 and my last 11/15/2018. In those 60 years, I have spent in excess of at least, and probably much more, $200,000; at one point in life, stocking and restocking an entire retail store with used merchandise from several in southwestern and central Ohio The shops I frequent all guarantee their inventory and are reputable business people.
That is true but the pictures leave something on the table compared to my Samsung Note 4.

I now have 6 or 7 digital cameras that I purchased used at local resale shops (Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc). None of them were more than $10. Some of them needed battery chargers or additional batteries or a chip. That wasn't a big problem. Amazon had the needed extras. Currently, I've been using a Sony CyberShot DSC-TS. I use it almost exclusively because its on/off switch is a simple sliding mechanism. Its as flat as a cigarette pack, has a battery life of almost 2 hours and can fit in a bra or shirt pocket.
Of course, I have my backups - 2 Canon Elphs and 2 addition Sonys..

On the road, I have a cable that I plug into the Sony and connect to my laptop via USB to download the pix.

Best advice: as the weather gets colder, have an additional charged battery and always, always keep your camera warm (keep it next to your body heat).
I have been using a Nikon Coolpix S560 for years well my 3rd one now. The option of resize is possible on the camera as well as a image button for receipts that makes them come out great. I don't use my cell camera unless I forgot my Nikon. My cell camera sucks and I may be old fashioned but 99% of my pics are with my digital camera. I can snap stealh pics quick without anyone seeing. Small fits in pocket and easy to use. IMHO thje best of the Nikon Coolpix out there but the other ones are similar. The S560 may be harder to find.

Shopping Western NY, Northeast and Central PA, and parts of Ohio and West Virginia. Have car will travel anywhere if the monies right.
This Southern Belle thanks all of you guys for the wonderful input and ideas. Thanks so much
