I don't know where the post offices you shop are in relation to your home, but... I rarely take USPS jobs for which my house isn't zone 1. So, I keep mailing myself the same eight or nine packages.... My wife does post offices close to home and either sends little gifts to our nieces and nephews or bags or rice to a food bank. It works really well for hazmat shops: She can often try to mail the same bag of rice 10-12 times before being successful.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
Wow..that is a great idea..unfortunately my hazmats keep getting accepted..aarghhhh

You must not be acting creepy enough? smiling smiley

My wife actually went through a spell where so many of her bags of rice went through that the food bank sent her a nice personalized letter thanking her for the donations and suggesting that she send a check instead as should would not have to spend so much on postage....

Has anyone else noticed that shipping cost went up? What I used to spend $7.70 on, I am now spending $8.30. It went up a pretty good bit here. Dawn, I am having the same issue. I have only been declined once or twice on hazmat shipping. All else has gone through. I've even had clerks ask the manager if it can be accepted, and they still accept it.

USPS increases their prices the 3rd week of January every year. I eBay a lot, so I always know when it changes.
For all of you looking for shipping buddies just a suggestion. I live in a 900 zip code but most people do not have any idea where that is just like I have no idea where 200 is. So to save all of us from having to look up the zip code of each person requesting a shipping buddy I think it would be easier to also mention where you live. If you say you live in San Bernadino Cal I will immediately know I am not zone 5 from you. But if you say you live in Ohio I will immediately know you are far enough away to be beyond zone 4. Then I might look it up to see if we have compatible zones for this shop. Save some footwork by telling us at least what state you are in. Thanks.

I unfortunately noticed this yesterday when my previous packages went for 12.90 which was under the reimbursement but now the same package costs me $14.20. Discovered on the job and already at the post office...too late to change my ship to address easily.
I just completed five hazmat shops. All five failed! One was a real post office and the rest were independent shippers. And one, gosh dang it, was $2 over my reimbursement!
Oh, and I was shipping a can of cat food to the correct zone, along with lots of packaging inside. It floored me that the failure rate for priority shipping and asking the hazmat question was failed all five times!
I have been told all sorts of strange things at non post office shops....priority boxes are not insured if sending thru them, there is no tracking thru them,. there is a one flat fee on all size and shape packages for the post office and it is about $40 to name a few. Then when I get the receipt they give me a little slip with the tracking number and insurance info on it! As long as the non post office has something to purchase you want or need it is a good thing for us for them to fail. I am surprised at your failure rate...they usually take anything in my experience.
If the $2 over location was one of the independents, you will get reimbursed for the full amount. When I ship with the brown company, they add a "convenience" fee (included in the price and not shown separately) and have had the cost range from $19.11 (this past week) to $27.00 (lat month). I was fully reimbursed for the $27.00 fee and expect the full $19.11 as well. But, by maxing out postage, you won't get reimbursed for the box if you purchased one.

My postal code is 2449067

Did you type too few or too many digits? A US zip code either has 5 (Zip Code) or 9 (Zip + 4) digits. You typed 7 digits. I am sure that there are countries with 7 digits, but hazmat shops can only be sent to Zones 5 and higher in the US. That can't be a Canadian postal code since you didn't include any letters. Assuming that you typed the correct postal code with 7 digits, I am curious as to what country do you live in.

I thought it was so nice. I have been sending school supplies to schools for these shops and actually got a thank you card back. It was something very small but was very much appreciated.

When the package is refused and you have to purchase something, can you get the $11 book of stamps and be reimbursed?
Google is my favorite also, but if you put it into Bing, it returns "postal code Timbuktu"

So, iShop123 actually lives in Timbuktu! Not a US address (it is in Mali), so not useful for any of these shops, hazmat or otherwise. smiling smiley

Go here and put 244 into this and you will see what zone you are in. [postcalc.usps.com]

You are always in your own Zone 1. The question is what Zone the other person is in. Go to [postcalc.usps.com] and enter the first three digits, 244, of your Zip Code. A chart will be produced. Look for a Zip Code range that includes 080 (my Zip Code) and you will see that I am in your Zone 3. Look at Zip 500 and you will see that they are in your Zone 5. The process is symmetric. I am in your Zone 3. If I produce a chart by entering 080, you will be in my Zone 3. I hope that helps.

oh, what I meant is that of the five shops, all of them mailed my priority box even tho they should not have.

Ha Ha. When I was growing up we always called things that were in far away places that did not exist either Timbuktu or Cucamonga. When I moved here to California I found out there really is a Cucamonga. It is not far from the megalopolis of Los Angeles now but I assume when it first came into being it was soooo far from civilization that it became a joke instead. And there is a Timbuktu as well...just found that out today on this forum.
Can I be a part of this list? My zip code is 95828 or 95632? I have a couple of hazmat shops coming up.
