How do you guys explain mystery shopping as your job to family and friends?

No, I strictly forbid anyone to fall for those shenanigans, LOL. Rewarding someone who so underhandedly is trying to fool people into divulging their best MSCs and shops would be sooooo wrong! If someone wants to find out how to succeed in this business there are nicer ways to go about finding out then trying to trick people into it. Asking for a little help politely would be one way. But, then again, I would still probably just respond politely, "do your homework".

Let me tell you something about the laws of supply and demand and simple economics. If mystery shopping really did pay 50-60 dollars an hour the competition for shops would be intense. Instead anybody can get on the net tonight and in 30 minutes land a mystery shopping job. If mystery shopping really paid $50 dollars an hour then getting on with a Mystery Shopping Company would be as tough as getting on with the Post Office.

We got 10 times more chances of ever seeing Trump's tax returns then anyone on here claiming to make 60 dollars an hour Mystery Shopping. I guarantee you that!

I hate to break it to you but today or yesterday the House subpoenaed Trump's tax returns...….

Well when they subpoena mine, I guess you’ll all see how big of a fraud I really am, too!

The competition for the jobs that I do is intense. You can’t get them by just applying.
I don’t waste my time on crappy jobs. I don’t need to do that. The MSCs know me.

Oh my 17 minute recorded phone call with no report had a $1000 fee to apply for an open a credit card. Let’s round up to 20 minutes. That’s $3000/hour.

Playing $100 a hand blackjack
Started with $500, walked with $1200 after 8 minutes.
Net $700
That’s $5250/hour
Of course I wrote a report, paid $250. Still a good average. Everything under $1199, I kept. After playing tables, I had to play slots to lose down to $1199.

Apply for a credit card shop. 15 minutes with reporting time. $200/hour.

Most of my shops are $1/minute
Averaging $60/hour
Some more, some less.
That’s why I have nice things.
I work hard and smart.
So, there is a 1000% chance of seeing DT’s tax returns?

That is what they call Sunshine and Lolipops! In the real world a casino blackjack dealer will deal 50 hands an hour easy. The guy who owns the mystery shopping company can't afford to play at the 100 dollar table much less you! LOL!
I know an MSC owner that drives a Maserati so......

MSC asked me to play with $500, playing $100 hands. Had I lost, I would have been refunded. No risk.

I play high limit rooms frequently.

That's not even gambling when you are guaranteed your wager back. You win either way....

And a Tesla Model S retails for the same price as a Maserati Ghibli. I'd take the Tesla.

But better to win and keep it. Very low stress. I usually play alone at the table.

My neighbor parked a Karma Revero in front of my house the other day. I had to google that. Starts at $130,000

Some lady double parked her Aston Martin in front of the grocery store in Calabasas. I don't recall the name of the store, but it made Bristol Farms look cheap. She bought one bag of food for $100. I don't think that anyone cared about where she parked.

OK. I need to enter my two bonused grocery stores. These take less than 10 minutes to input.
(20 + 10) x 2 locations = 60 minutes spent.
$30/hour + $18 in groceries.

I need to do something else to up my average today!
Boy, sobroke is showing his jealous streak. SoCal Mama doesn't live in a slum and neither do the rest of us. Instead of wasting your time lamenting on what you don't have and posting envious and spiteful comments on what the rest of us make, sobroke, why don't you get industrious and sign up with more MSCs. Or get a job as an employee somewhere.

I do not know where she lives but what I do know is that the story of a MSC or Casino reimbursing a shopper 500 cash to play at a blackjack table is FAKE NEWS!

@Sobrokeigot2dothis

Either you are completely full of garbage and trying to cause a problem; or you simply don't know what you don't know and are too arrogant to admit it.

Or is it both?

These mystery shopping ventures are real. What you completely fail to comprehend is that the MSC has a contract with the client which includes the potential reimbursement of expenditures. Consider the casino scenario. It is very possible that the client wants to know if the Blackjack dealers on their high-end tables are friendly, clarify rules as needed, notify the pit supervisor about high buy-ins, hide hole cards appropriately, etc. They need a mystery shopper to go in and play those tables - which is not going to happen if the shopper won't get reimbursed potential gambling losses. The $100 bet makes a lot of sense as that is usually then bet amount that requires a dealer to notify the pit boss. So, when the casino makes a contract with the MSC, the casino agrees to pay the MSC enough to cover potential losses.

Right?? Just as fake as the MSC who reimburses $5000 vacations to the Caribbean! #somuchfake

Making 60.00 an hour for a full day, not my way, but I will say, I was once sent a check from a Casino I was doing in Palm Springs for $300 to play the slots and able to keep the winnings. Had a ball and came home with cash.
I won't say it can't be done, I know a few that do it, yes it is work, but having made 60.00 yesterday doing a bank, in 20 minutes and writing report took 20 minutes, I have done it, so it certainly can be done. Some seem to have closed their minds, their loss.

You know, if SoBroke would just hang around and READ some of these threads, he/she might learn some interesting facts. I know I have. For instance:

1. I am a part-time shopper, yet I have learned how to ask for BONUSES, and GET them!! Being only part-time, I don't see the larger ones that some of the other shoppers here do. (ETA: I *HAVE* gotten PADs of $25-$30 from Trendsource, and do so every few months...now THAT is an accomplishment in and of itself!!)
2. $60/hr is VERY doable.....I don't believe we are talking about FULL TIME here, for the most part, although some of the more experienced and trust-worthy shoppers here may very well do that in a good week or month. But $60/hr on a day route is VERY doable, if you plan accordingly.
3. MANY MANY MANY shops and MSCs do NOT advertise their high-paying and high-end shops on the shop boards.....they will NEVER be seen there. Only after doing many of the "lower tier" shops will an MSC entrust a reliable shopper to a higher-end shop. Even I know that, just from reading through this Forum over the past 9 years or so. So because SoBroke cannot SEE these higher-paying jobs, he/she is presuming they just don't exist, but they do.

So, my conclusion is, maybe it's time to start listing some recipes here!

SoBroke, it's clear that you believe what you believe and will not let facts get in the way of that. So, while you sit here and continue to argue with many of us and call us liars, we are going to go out and make the money that you don't believe we will make.

...and you still wonder why you aren't making this kind of money?

Here's a hint - attitude.
This is basically the MO of all who embrace the "fake news" philosophy. Deny the facts, even when they are publicly available.

I say, "Don't feed the....."

When you start with claiming you do something only out of financial despair, you are basically insulting the entire profession.

@Hoju my recent Caribbean trip was only a bit over $4k in value, though. I may have to go to Hawaii to run up a $5k bill.
P.S. I just ran the numbers and am happy to say I made $3.45 on the Caribbean vacation, so it's about $0.10 per hour if your don't include the reimbursements....but I had to take airport shops on both ends to turn a profit.

Truth be known, most of the self proclaimed mystery shopping millionaires in this thread will be getting their biggest checks of the month next week when the government entitlement checks are doled out. You know social security checks and food stamps and disability checks.
This message is garbage and should be deleted.

I would bet $100 dollars on that statement and raise it $100 dollars. This is exactly why people should not be running around telling friends and family that they make $60 dollars an hour mystery shopping. Friends and family have eyes and ears so they know what I know all to well.
okay time to stop feeding the guy that lives under the bridge, folks.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Did you know that Aldi stores carry a clone of Bisquick for half the price. To make wonderful cranberry-walnut bread, just google the Bisquick recipe but make it with the Aldi version. I double the amount of walnuts (less expensive at Aldi, also) and used dried cranberries, also double what the recipe calls for. A couple of slices with cream cheese (or not) will make a great treat for breakfast. Also makes nice holiday gifts if you use the half-size loaf pans and bake several batches.

I agree that *you* should not be telling people that as it would be false. However *you* don't know squat about the rest of us or the shopping we do. *You* demonstrate that ignorance daily on this board.

The reason some of us share what we can make is so that folks who are interested in increasing their earnings can know what is possible. We then share much of what we do in order to make that money. I recognize that this is beyond your capacity. However, that does not mean that you have some duty to attack those of us who can. Several folks on this board either currently or used to do this for a living. I don't. However, I have seen enough to know that it is possible. I chose not to because 1) after benefits, I do better teaching high school and 2) I don't want to spend as much time on the road as I would have to in order to do this full time.

I don't know why you come to this board. You have zero positive contribution and just like to attack folks. Why would any mentally stable person choose to do that with their free time? Since you are "SoBroke," perhaps you should sign up with more MSC's and spend more time making money? Instead of ripping on others, perhaps you should try helping yourself?

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.

All I am suggesting is that we stop feeding the innocent public lies about making $60 dollars an hour mystery shopping. Why do we need to lie and misrepresent the truth. Why is it not good enough to just tell the truth which is they can make money mystery shopping but they better not try to live off of it?
