Looking for shipping / mailing buddy in 96xxx

I'm considering the post office shops, so I'm looking for a mailing buddy in Zip 96xxx. Anyone on the Big Island of Hawaii, Maui, or other islands? ( I'm on Oahu, so I don't think I can mail to someone also in Oahu).
We can mail each other nicely-wrapped crumpled newspapers and rocks LOL

You might try doing what the client instructions suggest and mail a pound of non-perishable food to a food bank in that zone.
I don't think that has been suggested for several years. I just looked in the guidelines, and didn't see it. There were a lot of issues with food banks calling 9-1-1 when they got boxes from strangers. In fact, when DimWt boxes were being sent, the MSC specifically advised against sending packages to food banks unless they agreed in advance to receive them and could identify your name on the package. This is a sad reality.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
I live in Alaska and understand your plight of finding local USPS pals. I mail cat food to the local animal shelter. 3 cans=1lb,2oz in a padded envelope.
I never heard of any problems with mailing to food banks. I copied this from the HAZMAT USPS guidelines that I downloaded 5 days ago before doing my shops.

"You must ship to an address in Zone 5-8. If you don’t ship to a Zone 5-8 location, your shop will not be able to be used. If you don’t know anyone in one of these areas, consider shipping a bag of rice to a food bank in a Zone 5 location."
Thanks everyone for your input. Still no mailing buddy found.
Yes, I've considered food banks or pet shelters, but I'd rather have a shopper buddy so that we both benefit.

The main problem is that I can only mail to Zone 1 or Zone 8. Why? Because for me, every Hawaiian island is Zone 1, and everywhere on the continental US is Zone 8. So it's either Zone 1 or Zone 8, with nothing in between.

I remeber reading about shoppers who encountered issues with sending to food banks. One shopper had the police show up and ask her questions.

Found the thread.
Thank you for finding that, JAS. A very interesting read, and something to keep in mind. Yikes!
Ms V. I mail to zone 8 all the time. It is only 20 cents over the reimbursement limit. If you don't buy boxes but instead find some to recycle from a local business, school or somewhere you can ship to the US and have a bigger audience. In the end you will only be out a small amt. And I would think some of the post offices near you might be bonused at times.
You could ship an 18-ounce box to me in 08021 for $14.20 and get maximum value for "your" money". Yes, you would be out $0.20 and you would not get reimbursed for the box, but I would send the box back to you. So, maybe you would lose $1 on the first shop.

If you want to ship me a bag of rice or another food item I will take it to my local food bank. I can not mail your box back because I have three out of town children who enjoy the 31 oz. care packages I send them.
PM me if you want to send to 605**.
Whenever I am grocery or Dollar Store shopping I help myself to empty boxes smaller than 12 x 12 x 12. With employee permission of course. Packing tape is bought when Hazmat packages are refused and >something< needs to be purchased for a receipt.
Did the shops. Thank you, myst4au and Rho, for your offers to receive my packages. I called an animal rescue shelter, and they were happy to accept some dog food. I used boxes turned inside out. But I'll keep you guys in mind if I need to ship to Zone 8.

Over here everything is so much more expensive. Only when on special sale can you find cans of chili at 2 for $3. Never seen bags of rice or beans or cake mix for less than $2.50. And, there are no dollar stores here.

I wonder what would happen if you used zone 5+ to look up an address in Zillow and sent the package to that address?
I would freak out if I got a package from someone I didn't know and I dang sure wouldn't open it. You might cause someone to have a fearsome experience, and what if they had a bad heart and you caused them health repercussions? I would probably call the police if I got a package from someone I didn't know. And wouldn't you have to put a name on the package above the address? How would you find out the name of the person who lived there?
Freak out? Really? Whenever I get package from someone I don't know and don't want it, then I just throw it in the trash. You can confirm the address you find on zillow is a vacant house anyway.

My friend works at Costco. She buys a 60 can box of cat food, which I ship to her 3 at a time. Do you have a Costco or Sam's Club membership? Didn't they open 3 Target stores on Oahu?
You have gotten packages addressed to you from people you don't know more than once? And how did you know you didn't want it if you didn't open it? I have never gotten a package from someone I didn't know that had my name on it. I sure wouldn't throw it away if it was a package or a piece of mail that came to the wrong address and belonged to someone else, I would take it to the post office (if it didn't fit in my mailbox) so they could deliver it to their rightful owner. It wouldn't be right to just throw mail away that doesn't belong to you.

Yes I have. If it's a package, it goes to the post office for "return to sender." If it is an envelope that has no return address or has a name on the return address that I do not know but is addressed to my correct address, it goes into the trash as spam. If it is addressed to my address but with someone else's name that does not live there, then it goes to trash. This happens a lot.
